As we were on an into Rail holiday we had a lot of interaction with this fabulous historic train station. It is the main one in town and always seems to be busy with people going about their business.

The information centre there was really good. You take a ticket and we were quickly served by a happy lady who gave us just the information we needed.

You can also use it as a supermarket as there are a couple of them inside along with a great range of fantastic eateries. We bought food for our journey from there and it was great.

Only a 10 minute walk through the underpass into the very centre of town so access is very easy.

The worst inefficient bureaucratic DB and VGN offices ever. I can't even believe this is one of the richest countries in Europe and the world! Spent 45 minutes been DB and VGN trying to get a refund for a wrong ticket I bought online on their app!!! One guy yelled This is Germany, we speak only z German!
Result - nothing. You have to email them like it's 1985... They can't even email back!

What kind of banana republic do we live in now?

Succinct notice: Lounge only opens at 7 p.m.

The train charges money - I pay a lot of money for travel every year.

I don't have to comment on everything that's not working - but it's getting worse and worse!!!!!!

THAT SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING!

This is a large, modern train station. It is conveniently located just outside the walls of the old city.

Nuremberg Central Station (Nurnberg Hauptbahnhof: hbf) is a very large and bustling train station with excellent facilities. This station is a convenient gateway to exploring the beautiful Nuremberg Old Town. Since it takes only slightly over 1 hour by ICE train from Munich Central Station (Munchen Hbf), Nuremberg is an excellent day-excursion destination for those staying in Munich. When we stayed over in Munich on the way to Salzburg and Vienna last September, we took a day-trip to Nuremberg by train using our German Railpass. Our morning ICE train’s 1st class compartment had many vacant seats, and the conductor was pleasant and courteous. Upon getting off the train at Nuremberg Central Station, we walked along the platform toward the head of the train, reaching the station lobby area. There, we could have taken the down-escalator to the lower level which would have lead us to the underground passageway to the other side of the train station plaza & the road leading to Old Town market (about 15 minute walk). Instead, we exited the train station through the main entrance/exit with taxi stand, because we wanted to better utilize our time in Nuremberg by taking a taxi to Old Town Market (Nuremberg Hauptmarkt) and walking back to the train station along Plobenhofstrasse/Konigstrasse filled with beautiful churches, shops, and other attractions. After enjoying the Old Town attractions for about 3 hours, we walked back to the train station along Konigstrasse. Near the train station plaza, we followed the road to the entrance to the underground passageway (Konigstor Passage) leading to the train station’s lower level arcade where many shops, restaurants and other facilities were located. We spent sometime exploring the train station’s arcade area before going up to the platform level via the up-escalator with “DB” & “S” sign. On the platform, we looked at the train composition board for the exact location of our train’s 1st class cars, and went to the location/Sector. [See my 13 uploaded photos for more self-descriptive information]
To our surprise, the arriving ICE train to Munich was already filled up even in 1st class cars. The passengers waiting for the train on the platform tried to board the train and find available seats without success, creating chaotic scene. We, along with the other passengers with 1st class tickets/passes, ended up standing all the way to Munich. To make the situation worse, the rude conductor even made an issue with the passengers for presenting their railpasses without the attached survey page showing their travel logs of dates/times and cities. Based on this unpleasant experience, I would recommend seat reservations for the train passengers from Nuremberg to Munich to make seat reservations for afternoon train rides. I would also urge all the railpassholders not to remove the survey page attached to the railpasses in order to avoid facing such tough conductors even though most conductors would just inspect the railpasses alone without looking for the survey page.

I happen to travel through this station quite regularly and it always gives me the chills. There is no seats on the ground floor (excluding cafes) and the lucky ones who do get a seat upstairs find themselves surrounded by junkies all around you see people high out of their face, unable to sit anymore, others going through trash or chatting up the passengers.. I have travelled quite a lot in Germany but this was the least safe feeling station so far. The security kept walking around but not doing anything.
The departing trains screen was also cracked or burnt, not sure, and could not show any info.

On arrival it can be confusing as maps and information are a little sparse if you are coming from a long distance train. Plenty of places to eat and great connections to the underground and busses.

This is a busy station but at least there is a good Lidl supermarket in the basement to get food for your trip.

Was so handy to be able to transfer from airport to ICE train and leave my bag in the locker to spend an afternoon in Nuremberg. It's so easy to get there and to walk under main road and into the old town.
