The Stadtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus was established in the former residence of the artist Franz von Lenbach and is most known for its world-class and unique collection of works by the artists of The Blue Rider, such as Franz Marc, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and Gabriele Munter, accented by eminent works of the Art Nouveau and New Objectivity, the art of the 19th century as well as international contemporary art.

If you love the work of Kandinsky, this is the place for you. The collection of his work -- from all periods -- is enormous, but there are also extensive displays of the work of several of his close friends.

The original house shows the home and collection of a wealthy 19th century artist, in contrast to the modern extension with 20th century art of high quality. Lovely garden.

Definitely worth stopping by for a few hours. We always time it so we can grab kaffe und kuchen at the end of the visit. Rotating exhibits are often wroth catching.
