After long time the Lenbachhaus is refubrished and has a new look. The new building is modern, verything is perfect, the lighting, the exposition etc. However, I feel something is not so good as it used to be. Before there was a feeling that you are visiting an artists house with paintings on the wall. Now it is the museum,... More

This held some great German art and was very interesting. The studio and living quarters of 'the painter Prince' were definitely worth a look.

This doesn't look like your typical museum! It's more like a mansion. There's a mix of modern and contemporary art. Once you enter the lobby, there's a piece of art hanging from the ceiling that instantly grabbed my attention. I call it the "glass tornado." See my attached picture and maybe you'll agree. Absolutely stunning! When I visited the museum,... More

Not to be missed. Great paintings by the Blauer Reiter, in particular, Kandinsky and Münter. Nice collection of German impressionisms. Interesting collection of art after 1945. Beautifully presented. Add some minutes in the beautiful garden.

A terrific collection of the Blaue Reiter painters, as well as others. Larger than one might expect, but small enough to do at one's leisure and not get over-saturated.

The Italian style villa that belonged to the painter Franz von lenbach now contains rooms with original features and furniture and the famous Blauer Reiter Collection. it also has idyllic gardens and sculptures and is a real gem. There is a restaurant with food and drinks, where we enjoyed a superb meal.

very beautifully decorated museum, not huge, (which can be overwhelming): Tip: next to them is a restaurant that has great food: meals, cakes, coffee and wine. Not the typical museum restaurant food !

Right in the center of the museum district, this private home that was converted into a museum has a great collection of art. Especially interesting was the special exhibit that just opened featuring an American artist.

Lenbachhaus is the home of the 19th Century fashionable portrait painter Franz von Lenbach. On his death, he left his house, gardens and collection of paintings and sculpture to the State of Bavaria. Recently the State commissioned the reknowned British architect Sir Norman Foster, to design an extension to house Gabrielle Munter's very large collection of the works of her... More

One of my favourite activities while visiting new (to me) cities is to find an art museum. On this visit my brother-in-law recommended the Lenbachhaus for the Kandinsky. I adore the artist, so this place was perfect for me. I really enjoyed the artists paired with Kandinsky, such as Klee and Munter, along with the other Blue Rider artists. I... More
