The Stadtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus was established in the former residence of the artist Franz von Lenbach and is most known for its world-class and unique collection of works by the artists of The Blue Rider, such as Franz Marc, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and Gabriele Munter, accented by eminent works of the Art Nouveau and New Objectivity, the art of the 19th century as well as international contemporary art.

Beutiful building with a well adapted odern entrance. Decorative garden and a big collection of paintings of the Blauer Reiter group, Kanindsky, Munter, Klee, Marc, etc. Other painting of German painters.

historic building contains fine examples from 19th century painting / sculpture, (including Von Lenbach, painter ánd collector), continuing into 20th century with emphasis upon Blaue Reiter, but also several nice works from Joseph Beuys and other contemporaries..

After having read about and studied the Blue Rider movement, it was exciting to visit this gallery in the crucible of that style. A very nice installation of Blue Rider works among other modern pieces set in a lovely former villa home.
