Austere but grand

I think I am right in saying this was extensively damaged in the War and is now restored to its former austere glory. It is a fine building worth a short visit.

Walking through central Munich (Marienplatz) one cannot help seeing Frauenkirche towering overhead with it's two towering bell towers. Though it's interior lacks the Baroque style in other nearby churches, its interior central hall can be overwhelming due to its ceiling height and column construction. When entering make sure to locate the Devil's Footprint and walk through and wonder about its... More

This famous church is quiet and serene inside. It is quite austere in some ways, but that is appealing; you appreciate the simple beauty and the attractive windows. There is a very impressive tomb just inside the door. If you stand in one spot (middle back) you can't see any of the windows, just pillars - apparently the result of... More

Wow, the city of Munich poured in time, talent and money to build a beautiful church. They even prohibited any neighboring buildings from climbing higher than the Frauenkirche.

Frauenkirche is a historical church with impressive exterior and interior. I had the opportunity to participate of a mass and it was splendid. I do recomment a visit.

Beautiful from the outside, but very plain inside. Maybe worth popping into, but you don't need to budget much time for this one.

You can see the towers from all over central Munich, but the inside isn't that spectacular compared to the competition. If you want a quiet moment go for it. If you want spectacular consider Assam Church, the Theater Church, St. Michael's or St. Peter's

Looking at the massive front with the two onion topped towers you expect to be awed by the inside but it just seems a mass of columns.

A huge Church where apparently you can climb one of the towers but unfortunately not at the current time (Dec 2016) owing to renovations. The Church itself is quite understated for Europe, but owing to it's huge proportions is quite lovely. I actually enjoyed this as a quick diversion from the main square of Marienplatz. Worth a quick visit but... More

I did the free city walking tour and one of our stops was inside this church to see the devil's footprint. We didn't spend much time otherwise but I did think the altar was very nice. Told this was Pope Benedict's home parish.
