Our visit to Alpspitze definitely shaved a couple years off my life due to the wind. Our ride up via the Alpspitzbahn wasn't too bad, and offered better views than that of Zugspitze because it wasn't as crowded. However, the ride on Hochalmbahn (to get...More

We took cable car to the top & hike 6 hours down, 24,000 steps on FitBit, GREAT day! Wear GOOD hiking shoes, bring snacks & water.

The ride up was great to see. Once up top there where a few trails right at the top. The walk way was steel grate so you could see below you. We took the one trail and they had a story along the trail. Along...More

We rode the cable car up to the top where the views were amazing. We then decided to hike down to a lower gondola to ride back down. We had a magnificently sunny day.

We chose to go to the Alpspitz rather than the Zugspitze so that we could look AT the Zugspitze. Happy with our choice as there's a bit more to do at the Alpspitz. Great ride up, wonderful hike, and a couple food options at the...More

The Zugspitze is the highest mountain and it is also the busiest. The Alpspitz next door is overlooked, figuratively and litterally, but for my money the better experience is the Alpspitz. Parking is free and there are no queues. Travel up on one lift, visit...More

This is a must, the cable car takes you straight up the mountain, I mean straight up! Breathtaking views of Garmish and surrounding areas, looks like most people ride up and walk down, you can walk half way down and ride another cable car down...More

Birkenstocks would be a no-go. If you are only hiking the section between the Kreuzeck and the Hochalmbahn or from the Hochalmbahn to the Alpspitze with the Garmisch Klassik Ticket, leather boots could be ok, but I would... More

When I was there in August there weren't any explicit restrictions in that regard. I didn't specifically ask about them either though. That being said, there was no one there to monitor whether you climbed to the upper... More

I do not believe there is any type of road heading to the Alpspitze viewing station. The Alpspitzebahn or hiking trails get you there. One of my favorite webcams is up there. If you have not checked them out, google... More
