We chose to go to the Alpspitz rather than the Zugspitze so that we could look AT the Zugspitze. Happy with our choice as there's a bit more to do at the Alpspitz. Great ride up, wonderful hike, and a couple food options at the stations as well.

The Zugspitze is the highest mountain and it is also the busiest. The Alpspitz next door is overlooked, figuratively and litterally, but for my money the better experience is the Alpspitz. Parking is free and there are no queues. Travel up on one lift, visit the viewing platform, walk down the mountain where there is a folk story about Giants... More

It is so beautiful! If you are in the area, this is an attraction not to miss. There is something for everyone when you get to the top and many ways to get up there. This adventure is for every age and for everyone from Nature Lover to Extreme Sportsperson to laid back lunchers and scenic-viewers.

This is a must, the cable car takes you straight up the mountain, I mean straight up! Breathtaking views of Garmish and surrounding areas, looks like most people ride up and walk down, you can walk half way down and ride another cable car down also, watched parasailers start from the top and glide all the way down to the... Went to Alpspitz after Zugspitz. It was much warmer. Lots of trails to hike. Just lovely. We could see Ludwig's hunting lodge in the distance.

Took the cable car up to the top for a paragliding experience. Although the cost of the cable car is quite pricy, the view from the top of the mountain is awesome, especially on a lovely sunny and clear day. Have made this trip 3 times now but it's still as good as ever.

It was a clear, sunny day & the views were amazing! Watched the paragliders taking off which was very cool. You can get on the Hochalmbahn at the top or walk down for about an hour. If you are able, the walk is stunning - very gravelly & slippy in places. Once at the Hochalm you walk to the Kreuzeckbahn... More

Absolutely head up top! If you have kids, do the Pleasure Trail. Note that if you take the Alpspitz cable car and head down, the incline will be VERY steep. We did it with a 2 year old in a hiking pack on my husband's shoulders and our daughter, 4, was able to walk on her own holding a hand... More

Not for the faint-hearted but amazing view to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and rocky peaks around. Breathless experience. The 3 cable cars in one.

I went to see Alpspitz with friends on a recent trip to Garmisch when Zugspitze was too socked in to see the view. Initially we all felt like we were settling but our outlook completely changed once were on top. The views were breathtaking, especially from the metal grate catwalks that let you walk out over the abyss! If you're... More
