I’ve always disliked doing super touristy things like the salt mine tour. However, I was pleasantly surprised this time and I recommend it to couples and families, even with little kids. A few thoughts: - It’s cold in the mine so I recommend wearing a...More

A must do if you are visiting the Berchtesgaden area. The wife said it resembled "Willy Wonka's" tour, with a trrain, a boat in a tunnel, and licking the walls!!!! Highly recommend.

At the beginning we dressed up into mining overalls and sat on benches of an old mining train. We traveled through a narrow tunnel by a train and set off in a hall where a guide showed us how salt ore was formed underground. It...More

My wife wasn't so sure initially about going, but found it to be worth her while. Very fascinating tour of an active mine, one that has been in operation for over 500 years! You start with putting on coveralls (provided), then a train ride into...More

It's fun, even if you're not traveling with kids! It was interesting to learn about how salt is extracted from the mountain, as well as fun to go down the slides! Just the right amount of time and entertainment. We appreciated the English Audio Guides.

This is a great place to visit. Really interesting and great fun as you go round on mini trains, go down a couple of slides, sail around a mirror lake whilst dressed up in special overalls. I now have a much greater appreciation of that...More

We took the tour and found it interesting but had it been better organized it would have made it much better. When they take you to the first stop the tour guide began the presentation and we a number of others were not even in...More

What an experience. You go on a train, then the real fun begins! You have to hurtle down 2 long slides and don't forget to have fun. Its all with a guide who helps you get started. Then you see the mine and learn all...More

It isn't a 'must see' place but will do to keep out of the rain for a while. Expect to have to wait some time for a tour slot. The underground slides to reach lower levels are fun. Tour groups are about 40/50 strong and...More

Hi Shawn, It's a close call between the 2 mines and would likely depend on your location/itinerary. IMHO based purely on a mine visit, Berchtesgaden would get the vote. The wife said it was quicker with less walking. I... More

The guided tour underground takes about 1 hour. Please plan about 1,5 to 2 hours including buying your ticket, getting changed, welcome and returning the miners' clothes. Book the tickets online first to avoid the line is a... More
