We visited the Salt Works during our trip to Berchesgaden. We didn't know what to expect but we were all very satisfied with the tour. From the very start you are taken on a journey into the mountain on a train, after this every stage...More

Well organised tour with many surprising facts. Highlight is the two wooden slides you have to go down, but you might need to bring a bottle of schnapps with you.

This salt mine gives an opportunity to glance into the experience of the salt miners. The mind is 300 meter deep and the way to travel inside is as the miners experience- using the wooden slide that goes fast into the mine, the mine train,...More

We visited this salt mine to get a feel for the 'sal' in Salzburg. We took the bus from Salzburg directly to the site, although there was a short 5 minute walk to the visitor center. We walked right up to the ticket counter and...More

Interesting visit as we get to ride a train down the mine and also try the slides in down the mine. I yelled all the way down the slides, scary but fun! Bought some flavoured salt as souvenirs too.

You start by donning a coverall. Take a group picture, it's the last one you can take at this attraction. Then, you board a small train to enter the mine. They mix the rest of your visit up with walking, slides (yes, even adults), and...More

Very educational and fun tour of a functioning salt mine. Well paced for tweens and up. Have your picture taken, it's worth it!

At the suggestion of a German friend, we toured the salt mine in Berchtesgaden. I am glad we did. It is celebrating its 500th birthday! We spent the time underground wearing coveralls which kept us both clean and warm as it is cool (12 degrees)...More

We added this as a stop on our trip on a last minute decision and we were so glad we did. We put on our jump suits and had a blast on the slides and exploring the salt mines. We learned a ton and enjoyed...More

As the salt mines are in Germany, not in Austria, I think there is no public transportation there. Would recommend the alternative: a local travel agency (Panorama Tours for example).

Probably they will not go for it. They are pretty safe, as long as you can keep your legs up, but they have stairs for those who, for some reason, don't want to go on the slides. No worries, they will still enjoy the tour :)
