Well worth the 8-year wait but with minor annoyances

For women, don't wear stiletto heels. You would just ruin your poise when you set those spikes in between cobblestones. The venue provides you with free cushions. We had to check ours with the staff. The seats were unbelievably uncomfortable. The back of the seat was angled forward so that it was digging into your back for hours. I toughed... More

I have waited years to get a ticket in the ballot for the Ring Cycle, and knew the contentious nature of the Frank Castoff productions. Nevertheless had a really memorable visit. Wear cool clothes. The two intervals in each opera were each exactly an hour long, but if you enjoy a walk around the Park and lake first, you miss... More

We have been applying for tickets for the Wagner Festival for 15 years and although we visited 4 years ago, this time it was for the Ring cycle. We took the opportunity to intercalate a Parsifal which was fantastic. The Castof production is now some 4 seasons old but still has the power to shock and enrage the Wagner faithful.... More

Visited Bayreuth Wagner Festspiele for Parsifal on July 25th 2016. It was the Premiere and the first time that they have had rigorous security measures, as a lot of celebrities are attending that event. In the forerun it was highly discussed with anxiety that it might ruin the flair of the event. Women had to leave their purses, and the... More

What is there to say about the Festspielhaus that hasn't already been said? I saw the complete season in August 2016, 7 operas in 9 nights. The opera house was designed by Richard Wagner and the acoustics are magnificent and perfectly balanced. One of the highlights for me is the beginning of the Ring Cycle, with the famous E flat... The annual Bayreuth Wagner Ring Cycle and other Wagner operas held at this iconic place and for good reason. It is not a particularly attractive building from outside although it was supposed to have been built over 100 years ago but it certainly does not have the decorations seen in other opera houses around the world, or more precisely in... We were lucky enough (after 8 years of waiting ), to see a fabulous production of Gotterdamerung, it had a contemporary setting with the Rhine Gold being replaced with oil. During the two separate hour intervals there are plenty of places to eat and drink, we ate in the restaurant, make sure you order your food before the interval or... More

Anyone who loves Wagner's operas has to make a pilgrimage to the Bayreuth Festival. The theatre is beautiful from the outside, very plain inside, but the acoustics are superb. It's like being inside a wind instrument. Taking the guided tour allows you to get into the covered orchestra pit and on to the stage, but this is NOT possible for... More

Opera The Flying Dutchman. A wonderful performance in this wonderful place. A fine evening and everyone beautifully dressed. My husband had replaced his old dinner suit for the occasion

I was lucky enough to see Tristan and Isolde here in August 2016. The opera and performance was of course extraordinary - and there are many reviews about this. The seats are not the most comfortable- but the small cushion for sale positioned mid back makes a big difference. The sound quality is excellent - like being inside a musical... More
