The museum presents objects and documents (like all museums do) on the history of the city of Bayreuth and the region. It is very spacious, over 3 (or 4?) floors, well organized, with much well-presented information to read. At last a museum where one really learns something, not just a collection for specialists who don't need explanatory panels.

This museum, devoted to the history of Bayreuth, is simply unmissable for anyone interested in local history. It includes a scale model of Albert Speer's megalomaniacal plan for the extension to the Festspielhaus area, among many other things.

Became more interesting on higher floors. Beautiful china, artifacts, interesting portraits, and furniture from the past. Interesting photography of the town before WW1. Some fabulous 'Kaiser' spiked helmets! Too hot in August ....no air conditioning. Only 2euros admission
