Welcome to the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. Located in the heart of the city, between the Kleinen and the Grossen Schlossplatz, directly on the bustling Königstrasse, the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart has long since become one of Stuttgart’s landmarks. No only its location but also its architecture contribute to the museum’s success. The glass cube houses three floors of exhibition space reserved for special exhibitions. Yet this part of the museum, visible from the exterior, comprises only one-fifth of the institution’s in total 5,000 square meters of exhibition space. Most of the museum is situated underground in a former traffic tunnel system. Presented on the ground and lower levels are highlights of the municipal art collection. Smaller thematic or monographic special exhibitions within the collection expand upon key aspects or set counterpoints. The »Frischzelle« series features young contemporary art.

The permanent exhibition of this museum wavers from interesting to hard to understand. It is a bit of high brow but the assembly of works by local artist Otto Dix is very much worth your while.

The museum, located within a huge glass cube, has definitely a very appealing modern architecture, which induces the anticipation in the visitor that this museum must also have a great art collection. But to be honest, apart from the great collection of works by Otto...More

Had bit of spare time so 4 of us decided to have look into this art house, which is set in a large glass cube structure. The lower level used to be an old underground station. From buying our tickets and handing in rucksacks, staff...More

The only interesting bit is one room with Otto Dix paintings. If you’re interested in modern stuff, then this small museum might be for you, but I prefer pre-WW2 art and then only the Dix collection is interesting. We luckily were there when entry was...More

When we walked around for the first time, I thought it's a modern shopping mall. Apparently, I was wrong. The building is nice, the collection is not huge, yet I really enjoyed it (except the art from food, it looked awful). HINT: If you want...More

I went there with a friend who almost knew nothing about art and surprisingly he loved this place. There are a lot of funny activities to do and interesting things to see. I really appreciated this museum!! Recommended.

While this building is very interesting from an architectural standpoint, and the special exhibition that I saw when I visited was also pretty interesting, the permanent collection in this museum is very regionally based, with little in it outside of this area of Germany. I...More
