Hauptstraße, known as Main Street to English speakers, is one of the longest pedestrian streets in Europe running from Bismarkplatz to Karlstor near the Heidelberg-Altstadt train station, a total of about 1.2 miles or 2.0 km. There are many photographic opportunities throughout the city. Karlsplatz...More

We loved walking through the centre of town, looking at everything and taking it all in. You could also look down the side streets at snippets of buildings (and views) that look like they're from another time and place. We couldn't stop just looking and...More

Altstadt is the center of Heidelberg and is very pedestrian-friendly. Beautiful historical buildings line the cobblestone streets. The old town is adorable with a long strip of traditional buildings filled with shops and restaurants. Plenty of opportunities to eat, drink and shop! I suggest walking this path to the castle funicular from the station if you have time! Takes about 35 minutes...More

Great place to visit and wander whether you days or simply a few hours. Always a hive of activity which makes it seem busy. A great selection of gasthaus and restaurants. There is always something new to see or do. If you are not familiar...More

Where ever I looked, I was reminded of a different city. If I looked down that alley, I was reminded of Prague. Over there looked like Passau. This way Munich, there Vienna, behind Salzburg.

I'm not 100% sure but you are likely to find attractions such as Heidelberg Castle open (at least limited hours) on Easter Monday. We were there on Dec 26th and while it is a public holiday in Germany (St. Stephens Day) and... More
