Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Schwarzwald Hochstrasse is certainly a beautifull scenic route with lots of curves and under normal circumstances I would certainly enjoy a sporty ride along it.

But as it happened I was there with my wife and two young children, when lots of fresh snow was falling from the sky. So even with winter tires I choose to very carefully (read slowly) guide my rear drive BMW over the slippery road.

This drive coincides with the B500 highway from Baden-Baden to Freudenstadt and is a wonderfully beautiful drive passing through the Black Forest. I strongly recommend stopping at Lake Mummelsee and taking a stroll on one of the forest trails. There are many of them rising moderately (easy enough for my pregnant wife to finish) that take you up to a nearby peak that offers beautiful panorama views of the lake and the forest.

You can also take a short detour and visit waterfall Allerheiligin or stop at Ruhestein.

If you are traveling around that part of Germany, I would strongly recommend using the B500 Hochstrasse route.

Traveled the entire high road (B500) from Baden-Baden Freudenstadt, and would love to do it again. It is absolutely spectacular. Well-maintained roads and epic scenery is what its all about, with some stunning panoramic views towards the Rhine River and France. We stopped in Mummelsee to get some kirschwasser souvenirs and admire the view. You can also get authentic cuckoo clocks and Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest cake) here, we sat down for the latter in Freudenstadt at the end of our Black Forest journey. There are some popular Michelin-starred restaurants here just off the route in Baiersbronn and surrounds.

It's a wonderful drive, and offers mid-sized towns to small villages - as well as the Zuflucht look out point, the Lotharpfad and all sorts of wonderful views of the mountains of the Black Forest.

Nice scenic route with great views, but also good restaurants and hiking trails along the route. Avoid weekends, as traffic can be slow.

My husband and I took the Schwarzwald Hochstrasse from Baden-Baden until we exited for the Allerheiligen Monastery Ruins...the drive was peaceful (except for the speeding vehicles, zipping around us) and we loved all of the little "park and hike" spots. It's certainly slower than taking the freeway, but well worth the extra time!

We traveled up to Baden Baden on a very cloudy day, but the brakes in the clouds offered beautiful views.
