The first time i visited, the local Lyonnais came here for long week-ends in the country. Today, its the cuisine and archeology that adhere us to this lively city at the cross-roads of history. Hannibal, the Romans and early christians contributed immensely to the 40-odd sites scattered along the banks of the Rhone which co-exist comfortably with styles from every... More

Visiting this museum during my holidays caught me with tremendous surprise. Seeing Relics and artefact that are preserved dating back during Roman Empire push me to the edge of my curiousity. Some items were donated by benevolent archaeologist and others are found accidentally. What a beautiful feeling to see such thing of the past and I highly recommended it.

New museum built over a huge Roman home discovered when breaking ground for a high school in 1967. Excellent mosaics and models of Roman home(s). Outside walk the grounds. A mini-Pompei experience worth the time.

We visited today as part of a guided tour round Vienne on a river cruise. My heart sank when we stopped outside a dirty looking church and the guide began to talk. But as we entered, what a surprise! An enormous collection of Roman atrefacts that are collected form the town and displayed inside the church. The church itself dates... More

Easy to find this museum, which is one of the oldest churches in France built in the 5th to 6th century; It has lots of roman artefacts and sculptures and a great display of wine/oil bottles; There is some beautiful floor mosaics and some gravestones from the Gallo-Roman period. Anyone with an interest in Roman history would find this museum... More

One can get a good idea of what Roman life was like in the town nearby from the relics displayed in this museum adjacent to the "dig" area. Nothing extraordinary, but various examples of what Romans would have in their homes in a relatively far-off post. They have transferred several floor mosaics panels indoors here and they are quite beautiful... More
