Weiss is one of the oldest chocolate factory in France, started at the end of the nineteens century. It is also one of the best chocolate maker in France. In fact, there are only three companies processing cocoa beans in France, they are one of them. Hence, they supply most of the chocolate makers in France. They gather beans from all over the world, and process them specifically (each process is adapted to each type of bean). Weiss is famous for combining different beans to obtain different flavors (like you do with different grapes for wine). This is explained to you in this modern building, located in front of Ikea, off the highway between Lyon and St Etienne (exit 16 or 15). The building is worth a visit, it is nicely set (all in glass). In the middle, you have counters where you can make your own compositions of chocolate, try/buy chocolate and have lunch (unexpensive: around 17€, prepared by a chef, booking advised). There is a ramp around the inside part building explaining everything about chocolate and the company (in french and english), and spots to try different types of chocolate. At the end of the bridge, there is the entrance to the overlook on the factory. For this you have to pay a small fee, but worth it, as you can see from above the process of chocolate making. The "guides" are regular employees, who do this because they like it. They give you lots of explanations, and more chocolates to taste. Kids and teens love it to. In summary, a very interesting place, worth a visit/stop.
