The Plum Lyon kitchen welcomes you to come for cooking lessons in the city center of Lyon, the gastronomic capital of France. Located in the ancient silk-worker's district on the hill of the Croix Rousse, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Plum Lyon Teaching Kitchen is offering seasonal market classes, classic French cooking, children's workshops in English, and single subject ateliers that cover a chosen technique or theme in French cuisine. We accommodate 6-8 students per class. There is plenty of opportunity for hands-on learning in our classes.

This is a wonderful class in which we not only cooked our meal for the day but learned about the history of cooking in Lyon. Lucy makes this a complete day with a trip to the local market and the meal selection based on what is available and looks good. We had the opportunity to select items for the meal... More

Lucy taught us to make a beautiful and delicious dessert. She was well prepared, organized and ready to teach. The instruction kitchen is beautiful with a small class size. Her instructions were clear and her technique professional. She is from the USA, so we were happy to have the opportunity of a class in English. Lucy is also fluent in... More

My Wife & I had a lovely day learning French Cuisine with Lucy. We had another traveller with us and it "The Best Day Ever". Lucy took us to the markets and guided us with the history of Lyon as well. 6 Hours of cooking and eating and learning in this special culinary culture of food was a highlight. A... More

We have been spending some relaxed time in Lyon catching our breath, sleeping in, exercising, reading and of course cooking some of our own food. This seemed like a perfect time to take on a cooking class in France. I signed on to Lucy Vanel's Plum Teaching Kitchen after a recommendation form a friend on a previous tour. Lucy is... More

I participated in one of the Tuesday Market cooking classes at Plum Lyon. What a great way to experience a different facet of Lyon. There were 5 "students" total in my class -- all women, 4 Americans and one Israeli who spoke fluent English, ranging in ages from early 30s to late 60s. Two of the women were recent graduates... We did a market day class with Lucy. She took the group to the local food market to select fresh produce for the day, telling us interesting anecdotes and historical facts about Lyon and its famed cuisine along the way. We had a great day of cooking, learning, eating, and laughter. We prepared a full 5 course menu, that included... More

My mother and I spent a Saturday with Lucy and a great group of ladies from around the globe in the Plum Lyon kitchen. We started the day with a trip to the market. Lucy was very knowledgeable about Lyon -- we stopped periodically for short, interesting history lessons. I appreciated Lucy being very accommodating of my 76-year old mom... More

We did the all day Saturday Market table class and it was a fantastic experience from beginning to end. In the morning we went to an outdoor market and Lucy discussed some Lyon food history, took us to her preferred vendors and just showed us what a typical day would be. We went back to her teaching kitchen with goodies... More

I took an all day market class and returned to take a pastry class with Lucy. Lucy is an American who has had extensive pastry training in France and knows the Lyon food scene very well. The classes were fun for a beginner and non cook but challenging and enjoyable for everyone. The market class was super.

My mother and I signed up for the all day Market Table class and we were not disappointed. In the end, we made and enjoyed a 5 course meal and I think I can make most of the items back at home (and we can't wait to try!). The day went by so fast because we were having so much... More
