I went to this very small puppet museum in the heart of Vieux-Lyon because I passed by it and I saw it was included in my Lyon City Card, so I decided to take a look (if you need to pay, it only costs a few euros). From the outside, you can only see the store, which is free to access for everyone. I wanted to take a picture of the entrance, but the lady said it wasn't allowed. To enter the museum, you have to go to the front desk and ask for a visit. You will then be able to enter the museum at the back of the store. The museum itself consists of 2 very small floors, where there is a collection of puppets that are automatically moving as a voice is telling the story and history of Guignol and the puppets. Honnestly, I wasn't really interested in it, which made it an average stop for me. I think they could have made an effort to make it more interesting and interactive for everyone. For me, the coolest thing was just looking at the different puppets, which you can also do for free in the store itself. Therefore, I would only recommend going there if you are really interested in the story and history behind Guignol and the puppets. Otherwise, just taking a look at the different puppets in the store would be sufficient.

We spent a half hour in the Marionette Museum Guignol. It's the basement of a shop. Only 5 euro. It covers the history of the puppet from when an impoverished weaver found that puppetry was more rewarding than dentistry, to the present day. As you approach each exhibit, it activates and plays for a minute or two. Very appealing to the child in us.

Great inside into one of the early forms of entertainment. This small museum at the back of a shop was great to get out of the heat and learn some new information. Although bit creepy in the second room somegreatviews of this great arts history. And as on the Lyon card can't got too far wrong.

Guignol the puppet was invented in the early 1800s and he reflected the lives of silk workers in the city. He and many other little characters perform in this charming museum.

A colourful and welcoming frontage leads to a space where mementos can be purchased. Then it's to the main events.

Over a couple of floors a great variety of puppets are in many guises and performances. All reflecting the vibrant puppet theatres of the past. And that continue to nowadays.

A disclaimer; I am a professional puppeteer, so seeing the oldest known Guignol puppet was very exciting for me. Guignol is a famous character similar to Punch in England or Pulchinelle in Italy (I may have spelled that wrong). There are a few rooms dedicated to Guignol and puppetry in Lyon & France, then a few other rooms for other puppets from around the world. Great overview of puppetry styles. Each room had a monitor where you could view some short video of puppets in action, which is of course how they are meant to be. We saw the history museum first & also enjoyed it, but it's more extensive than we thought it would be, so we were getting tired and hungry before we even got to the puppets.

I'm a big fan of puppetry. If you're not, skip this place.
In a tiny storefront you see an oddball collection of signs, toys, trickets and a few marionnettes. Heavily tattooed attendants point you toward the stairs to a musty, dark cellar where a group of the puppets come to life under really creepy shadows. Many of the characters are familiar to French people, some were even familiar to us, a pair of Americans. The artistry of the faces was remarkable. The place seriously needs a dehumidifier to clear up the musty smell and protect the puppets.

A bit goofy, but definitely cute and worth the easy entrance fee! I really liked it! Lots of different marionettes to see and right on the old town main pedestrian road. I'd check it out if I were you! Also, Giugnol is SUPER Lyonaisse!

This was such a treat! Although small, it is a unique museum, exemplary curated, with one-of-its-kind marionettes and a happy and light ambience

We enjoy a good puppet museum but this wasn't it. Very small, not well lit, and too much crammed into the space. We used our Lyon City Card (GREAT VALUE!) for free entry but even so just didn't like it.

Cute little museum inside a souvenir shop. Host was very nice. Interesting collection inside of puppets and historical explanation on multiple language of Guignol.
