As a group we enjoyed this visit more than the Notre Dame in Paris. The view is stunning from the top of the hill. The facilities are well suited for all travelers including seniors and physically challenged

Notre Dame de la Garde offers commanding views of Marseille, its port, and neighboring islands and mountains. We recommend getting there on foot, though you may also arrive by car, bus, or tourist tram. The sanctuary and the gift shop are also worth seeing, though the panoramic views are what you'll remember.

It is a classic and if you don't go, you've missed the best part of your trip in Marseille. The sea and city view from there is amazing and the inside of the cathedral even more !

We visited here on our cruise in June 2016. We purchased tickets for the tourist train that leaves from the old port and takes you right up to the car park of Notre Dame de la Gard. The train was a great way of avoid quite a long walk and we got to take a mini tour of Marseille on... More

What a breathtakiing basilique. The colours in pale stones and lots of gold detail make it unique. Not only is it an architectural treasure it also offers great views of Marseille.

The inside of the basilica is a state of art between the bizantine and the roman style with lots of mosaics and great... More

It is a very steep climb from Vieux Port to the Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde which is the highest point of Marseille. The place is very charming and the church is very beautiful. There is also a small tourist toy train for those who want to avoid the steep climb. Inside the basilique many people light a prayer... More

This huge cathedral is near the port area. The building that is visitable was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century. It is huge both inside and out.

Climbing up to Notre Dame de la Gard is not easy for those over 60 like me. It's not that difficult either! Once you reach the basilica, there are wonderful views of Marseille, the old Port and the city on one side, and the sea on the other. It is well worth the trip. My wife and I walked from... More
