Overview
More
Created in 1992, La Friche la Belle de Mai is a 45,000 square meters cultural site in the heart of Marseille, created on the Seita's tobacco factory. Eclectic, effervescent, challenging, and open to everyone, this project has undergone a large scale transformation since 2013 (European Capital of Culture). With new stakes and in constant development, La Friche la Belle de Mai has become one of the most innovative and experimental cultural venues in Europe. La Friche la Belle de mai is one, if not the venue for visual arts in Marseille, with now more than 2,000 square meters of brand new exhibition spaces! It is a workplace and a creative hub, bringing together about 70 cultural and artistic organisations working in different fields amongst which visual arts, theatre, dance, cinema, and music. Almost a town within the town, La Friche spans different generations and social environments, intending to offer artistic activities to a very large public (festivals, exhibitions, shows, concerts, talks,...), and to be a genuine living public space with vegetable home gardens, a restaurant, a day nursery, a bookshop, a skatepark... and soon 30 social and student housings!

It's very hipster, but an evening spent on Friche la Belle de Mai in Marseille can't be beat. Situated on an old tabacco factory, it offers a great community space for doing whatever you feel like. DJs spin tunes on the decks, a bar serves...More

An awesome industrial estate with music, food and a stunning view. It's very mellow and the queues can be long but it's a great crowd. The music could be a little more upbeat but it's a great spot!

The Friche is one of my favorite summer spots, with a view from the rooftop out over the city, live music on weekends and some week nights, and a fun, relaxed social atmosphere. Add in great exhibitions and workshops, some films, etc., and it's a...More

This is such a great arts space. It has a really industrial and modern feel. I was presenting out in the sunshine in the garden, much better than a stuffy conference centre.
