Yes I is certainly an a perfect exemple of a “village perché “ which are villages built at the top of a mountain typical of the Provence region. It could be charming ...but : in the summer time the place is overcrowded and what is worse almost inaccessible by cars nor foot! there are parkings but the road to the village is so busy with cars that the walk is quite dangerous. I would really advise the municipality of Gordes to think of other ways to contain the circulation (parking with regular buses ?) As it is today the visit is not really pleasant unfortunately. The other option: come and visit in the winter!

This town strangely reminded me of the numerous hilltop villages in Tuscany – a similar sleepy unhurried vibe, similar appreciation of the town's little quirks and story, even somewhat similar vegetation. This town in Provence is undoubtedly cute but don't expect a whole lot of things to do in the old town itself. That said, there are a handful of cafes, including one we found with a really nice view of the valley below, gelaterias, and some artisan shops. It is walkable, and you will probably need 1-2 h to explore it all. For more things to do and see, time your visit to a market day (Tuesdays). There is a paid parking lot at the entrance to the village, which is quite convenient but think twice about paying through the Paybyphone app. While I use it pretty much daily in the US, in Gordes it took me at least 7 attempts to get the transaction through...

This town is a breathtaking site. Beautiful town. However parking is almost impossible despite several car parks. We tried once on a Sunday and then two days later on a Tuesday when a farmer’s market filled up the town center. Wear a good tennis shoe since the streets are steep and cobbled. There are cafés all over and two very good hotels. It is worth the struggle if you can be patient.

Nice hill top village but I have to say, not much to do once arrived. The views of Gordes on the approach road is spectacular but there are few places to enjoy the views from Gordes. Nice central square with cafes but did not see much more than that (and we did try). Parking was available but very limited as well - must be unbearable when crowded ...

Gordes is a pretty town with gorgeous views and is listed in many must-see guides to the region. Parking is limited but there are several designated lots that fill quickly so arrive early or late. Merchants here were rude to us, with one refusing to accept credit cards for lunch even as a terminal was visible next to the register and another in a gift shop complained to me when I presented ,y card for a purchase. The castle has been turned into a nice art gallery and there was a quaint church that we ducked into.

My husband and I were in the south of France for three weeks and decided to make St. Remy one of our "hubs" for three days, spending a full day here in Gordes...and we had an amazing day!

We got to the village earlier in the morning, which is a good thing because parking can be challenging. But we found a good parking lot, and then walked up the hill to the old Village. The walk up was steep but steady with sidewalks all along the way. And our efforts were well rewarded by our arrival in Gordes.

The Village is very charming, with winding streets and hidden gems all throughout. There are excellent shops, high end art galleries and plenty of nice places to eat....and of course the amazing views that go on for days!

Definitely one of the "must see" villages in Luberon.

This village is typical of the Provence with its houses, its trees. The place is very nice. Please lose yourself in the streets. It’s the best way to discover Gordes. There’s a fantastic view on the village near the parking. Just less than 10 minutes walk. I recommend because it’s one of the most beautiful villages of France.

We went to Roussillon and it's red clay for happy hour and Gordes for dinner and they are both spectacular in their own way. No need to decribe as a photo is worth a thousand words. Just beware of tourist trap restos and make sure you the amount you pay on the credit card machine is identical to the bill. I've caught a couple of "honest mistakes" since we arrived in France.

One of the most scenic towns in all of Provence and possibly France. Wandering around the town is calming (and also a workout). There are many options for meals, coffee, and shopping. The photo opportunities are endless.

We loved it so much when we visited two years ago that we decided to return and rent a villa (bastidon) for a week. Founded in 1031, it’s been ravaged by disease, earthquakes, and wars but always comes back stronger and more beautiful. The signature stone walls, that are floor lit at night, add to its charm. There are great french and Italian restaurants, bakeries, cafés and even a pub and mini supermarket. Of course they host the roaming Provençal market every Tuesday and have live music in the streets some nights. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Village with one of the most beautiful and sought after views in the world. It’s an amazing story of renewal as thousand year old stone Bastides and Bastidons (French Provençal homes) are gutted and renovated into homes and boutique hotels that will last another 1000 years. Wander the old streets and fall in love.
