Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited the Roman ruins and stumbled on this place. It was a nice park with a cafe. I had a coffee, my daughter had an apple juice and we both had a slice of pizza and it cost €10. The locals were playing boules which was nice to watch. There are also the museums to go in if you wish and to get there we caught the 15 bus which was regular and we caught it beside place Massena /rue de la poste

We visited this Roman Arena along with the nearby ruins and museum. Not huge, but its quite a site to see an actual Roman arena. a short car ride from old town, please visit, take an hour, and enjoy the historical significance of this city.

We took the bus up to Cimiez, a few kilometres from downtown Nice, mainly to go to the Musee Matisse. When we arrived we find not only the Matisse, but a whole area of interest.
There is an ancient archeological site, the actual park space with locals playing petanque, kicking soccer balls and whacking things with racquets. A note for jazz lovers (like me)... for reasons unclear, the park has a bit of a jazz theme. The park itself is surrounded by Allee Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and local favourite Barney Wilan plus sculptures of Louis Armstrong an Lionel Hampton.
Just outside the park is the Place Jean-Paul II, the Monastere Cimiez and the Cimiterie Cimiez where Matisse now rests.
A little off the well-beaten tourist track, the Parc is an unexpected pleasure if one has a couple of hours spare in Nice.

Nice sprawling gardens in the Cimiez area is popular with locals as a place to walk their dogs or to have a picnic. It is across from the Jardins du Mnastere in Cimiez and incorporates the Musee Matisse and Musee Archaeologique within the gardens. So it is quite a combo for you to see. There are old roman ruins (free) though compared to other ruins you may visit, this is not very special. The gardens are quite nice though - just to hang around.

Stop by and take in this Roman ruin on your way to the Musee Matisse and the Monastere de cimiez - they are all on the same path circuit.
Beautiful on a sunny day! Visit the nearby archeology museum if this is a subject that interests you.

This park is adjacent to the Matisse museum and Roman history museum. The park itself is quite pleasant and shady, but not overly large or dramatic in any way, except it contains some very interesting Roman ruins, including a small arena. Best reached by bus. Good if you want to get away from the touristy areas near the oceanfront.

Your ticket to Matisse will also provide passage for one day into seven other museums. This is a natural to visit as it is literally next door to the Matisse museum. We were the only people in the small museum (with an outdoor garden containing the ruins). There are laminated cards that were helpful to understand what you are looking at. The inside of the museum was small and can be seen in well under an hour. Quite interesting and the combo ticket is 10 euro per person so a really good deal. I agree with the writer who recommended taking the public bus, that's also what we did.

Wonderful to stroll in this park des Arènes, an ancient Roman site, romantic park, nice to take photos, splendid roses, my favorite flower, a feeling of so many history, in the amphittheatre of Emperor Augustus; the arènes are rest of ruins, and you must imagine
what it represented in the past; peaceful parc and places !

Ancient Roman bath houses are easily imagined from these ruins complimented by the 3D models within the museum section. A fascinating collection of ancient bits and pieces including examples of glass found in the dig. Don't miss it. Catch the bus to the top of the hill. Near the Matisse Gallery.
