We went to Tende from Nice, taking Train des Merveilles. From Gare de Tende we went hiking to the Chapelle Saint Sauveur. It´s a beautiful trek along the footpath up the hill. From the top we enjoyed fantastic views. The altitude is 1107m/Tende 410. The...More

This spectacular railway line is always under threat either from natural disasters (flooding, rock fall etc) or political goings-on. The threat of closure comes round frequently so do it while you can. The scenery is marvellous especially at the top end after Briel where the...More

We rode the Train Des Merveilles all the way to Tende and enjoyed the fantastic views and french/English commentary along the way. This journey is surely a hidden gem as not overly touristy. Tende itself was beautiful and everyone very friendly, food and drink itself...More

You can't purchase tickets in advance if your from outside Europe as SNCF won't take your credit card. So we just went to the Central Train station in Nice and purchased tickets through easy-to-use computer ticketing. We rode 3 trains from Nice France to Torino...More

Visited in August 2018. Unfortunately, we bought the tickets using the self-service machine and paid full price tickets. When returning from Tende, the gentleman at the ticket office told us about a day pass that allows for unlimited travels on coastal TER trains (which would...More

Had a lovely day out, with beautiful views and amusing yet interesting commentary. We struggled to find much information in advance, but asked at the ticket office about booking a ticket and were given a leaflet with useful info. Would recommend booking tickets in advance...More

Spoiler Alert - great train trip and amazing scenery and commentary (on board 9:17am train from Nice). After reading reviews re this little adventure, decided we would go. The SNCF office of Gare Nice-Ville can get super busy - fair warning. So rudimentary French and...More

Train was good except for strike one day and late another day. Police on train each time made me as a tourist uneasy.

I wrote a review a couple of years ago & would like to make a few more observations & add a few more photographs. This has to be Europes most spectacular train journey. The best train to get is the 09.17 from the main station...More

Read about this trip in the newspaper before heading to Nice. It sounded such a great way to spend a day that my 19 year old daughter and myself decided to give it a go. The cost of the two tickets was only 26 Euros,...More
