About
A beautiful factory in a building of the nineteenth century in the heart of the old town where are produced daily our perfumes and soaps. Our historic factory, one of the oldest in Grasse, can be visited every day for free. Indeed, the current premises housed from their origin, in 1782, a perfume factory. It is in 1926, in tribute to the famous painter Jean-honore Fragonard, that it takes the name of Perfumery Fragonard. Through a free guided tour of our workshops and laboratories, you will discover the creation of our products, made from the best perfume raw materials. Open to the public every day from 9h to 18h, last visit 1h before closing. Sale of products at factory prices.

You learn a lot about the development of perfume production in Grasse. At the end you also get a very good perfume consultation. There are very few places where you can sample this kind of perfumes. - tb42086 contributionsNice way to spend some time in GrasseI'm not a big perfume fan (I dislike strong fragrances actually), but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of things to do in Grasse. The reviews here seemed pretty positive, and it was free, so my wife and I decided to walk over to the Fragonard Musee and check it all out. We entered on the southwest side where there's a small reception desk and some interesting displays about the history of perfumes and the museum itself. Heading down 2 flights, we went to the tour desk and waited about 25mins for a tour in English. The tour takes you through an actual production area, some examples of stills and maceration tanks (not used here), to a working "bottling line", the maturation tank room, and a soap pressing room (very cool to watch) and some other stuff. Of course the tour ends in the gift shop, which has an overwhelming mix of strong scents that could give one a headache, but there's no push to buy anything and it's easy to slip away unnoticed if you like. My wife bought some things of course, but the prices actually seemed pretty reasonable (like a big bar of soap with one of their signature scents like the ones we saw them making in the room underneath for 6e). If you are like me, who can get a headache from someone with too much perfume, maybe wear a covid face mask :) Fresh air was very welcome afterwards (only sales area has strong scents). The bottom level has nice restrooms that you can get to in emergency just by walking thru the museum. Fragonard also has a free art museum nearby that we saw the day before, and there's a free costume museum on the same block. Also very nice and zero push to buy anything; they seem very sincere when they say "entree libre". I'm now a fan of Fragonard.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 August 2024
- Peter SLondon, United Kingdom59 contributionsA real gem in Grasse. This is a great place to visit for an hour or so. The small museum on the top floor has some interesting artefacts and history about the perfume world, then the short guided tour (in a choice of languages) is well worth taking part in. Best of all, it’s all free. The shop is full of delightful products that you’ll be tempted to get. As they range from about €6 to several hundred, there’s plenty of choice.Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 September 2024

I had the pleasure of visiting the Fragonard museum in Grasse this October and it was fabulous, the staff were really friendly, Covid wasn’t a problem as there was a one way system and socially distanced. They even did free tours in different languages which is awesome. I sometimes wonder how on earth they do it performing so many tours everyday. Great way to spend your time in Grasse.

Ideal to get some information on the world of perfumes. It is free, it is not to big, yet you a good idea on the history, the making of perfumes and much more. It is all kept simple and straight forward which makes it easy to digest.
Even our son of 9 was into the story.
At the end of the tour, you can visit the shop without any obligation to buy anything.

The museum was very interesting and I enjoyed it! But at the store, one of the assistants selling the perfume was so arrogant and rude to me. I don't usually write reviews but I was pretty shocked. After this experience I understand more and more why people prefer to buy on the internet ... shopping experience is truly different!

Had a free tour and learnt a great deal about perfume. A family business over four generations, who have three factories, producing perfume, toiletries and cosmetics.
Well worth a visit, and cheaper than the high street.

We went to Nice in Christmas holidays and struggled for time to cover our wish list. However Grasse was in our priority list, for knowing and buying the world’s fine perfumes in a moderate price.
We developed the following itinerary for our 7 day Nice trip and kept Grasse on 5th day schedule.
Day 1- Went to Eze Village by bus 112. It took 5 hrs, 20 mins each way for journey, 3 hrs at Eze, remaining is waiting time for bus
Day 2-Due to rain, we restricted to local area. We enjoyed old Nice, Flower market, Cathedral Sainte Reparate. In the afternoon we went to Monastery(Monastere de cimiez)/Museum Matisse/Archaeological Museum by taking Bus 17.
Day 3- Took Bus 200 for Cannes for the whole day. Journey time 1.5hrs each way
Day 4-Took Train des Marveilles at 9-13am for Tende and came back at evening. Journey time each way is 2-2.5 hrs.
Day 5-Took Bus 500 for Grasse. It took 1.5hrs to reach. We visited International museum for Perfumery and Franard Museum as we were very much interested in perfume making and purchased a lot.
After finishing Grasse trip we took bus 500 again but this time we got down in midway at 8th May stop and took Bus 400 for Vence. It took 30 mins to reach St Paul de Vence and enjoyed the amazing vence!(please see my detail review under things to do)
Day 6- We went to Monaco for the full day. Bus journey is 45 mins each way. Fantastic day spent!
Day 7- Local nice trip including Colline du Chateau and went back to London in the afternoon.
We walked to the Albert 1er, walking distance from our hotel and near the Rual beach to catch Bus 500 to Grasse.
Day before we went to railway station and found that Grasse return from Nice is costing much more(about 10 euro per head) and decided to go by bus which is quite cheap and flat fare of 1.5 euro.
There are plenty of buses (at least 1-2 buses in an hour in average) however; it is wise to take a bus time table from Tourist office or hotel to know the exact timing. Please take special attention to the 3 categories in timetable -
Lundi aVendredi means Monday to Friday
Samedi means- Saturday
Dimanche et jours feries means Sunday and Bank Holidays
It took 90 mins by Bus 500 to reach Grasse. We got down at the last stop-Grasse-Gare Routlere.
There is a tourist office at the bus stand itself; we took an A4 size map with some descriptions of places of interests. The tourist office lady also showed us the way to go to Fragonard.
Just behind the bus stand (behind the tourist office too), we got the way with clear sign post for the old city, leading to Cathedral/Fragonard/International perfume museum.
The sign posts were so clear and well located; we were impressed and never had a problem. Some narrow lanes were with Red carpets- what a colourful village!
The narrow lane is down and down, we walked for 10-15 mins to reach a junction- one side is going to cathedral and the other is leading to Fragonard.
The museum has a reception where the Fragonard visit trip starts. It is free and normally conducted in various languages. We were not so lucky to get an English tour as it was Christmas period and thus joined in a French language tour to save time!
Any way language was not a problem as various raw materials, drums and containers speak themselves.
We knew all the ingredients and process for the perfume, soaps, and crèmes.
At the end, we came to the shop. It has a very big area with thousand types of perfumes and other items with the taster samples. We could not restrict ourselves but purchased a lot then planned.
And now enjoying those beautiful smells every day from the perfumes! Nice!

All French perfumes are made in factories in Grasse before being sold in Paris. Fragonard perfumery is an old local perfume maker. It is called to honor the 18th century French painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard (1732-1806), who was born in Grasse. Musée Fragonard has a wonderful display on perfumes. Naturally, they also have a shop where they sell their brand of perfumes. Fragonard perfumes have a very original scent and they are not sold in usual perfume shops.

Perfume is one of my vices in life and I have wanted to visit Grasse for a long time. I really enjoyed my trip to the Fragonnard factory. There are free tours available in multiple languages. Testing out the products in the shop was also an indulgence, of course I treated myself to something! Would recommend.

Buon viaggio!

Dear Franca,
We thank you for your question. It is not necessary to book in advance your visit. It is free and without reservation.
We hope to have the pleasure to welcome you there.

Bonjour

I visited Grasse and Fragonard in 1983 and I will be returning in September 2016. How can I get to /Grasse from the cruise ship terminal in Nice?
Written 19 June 2015
Hello ! The easiest way from Nice would be to take the train from Nice to Grasse (there wasn't one in 1983 but it's been back now). Then when you're at the train station, there will be buses to the center of the city.
You can also take a bus from Nice (it's cheaper but slower).
Taxi will cost you around 80 euros (one way) so it's a budget you might want to keep for shopping. I hope you'll enjoy your trip to Nice and Grasse !
