Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Tour guide was not very engaged and/or seemed disinterested. Gave much more detailed instructions in French vs. English; we were told she would do both and we could barely understand her English although we’re American. Without interesting details, the castle is not that impressive as French castles go. I would recommend Les Baux de Provence. Much more interesting.

Visiting Fort Carré after the crowded street of Antibes is a peaceful and rewarding experience. To arrive at the 16th-century fort, you walk 15/20 mn through a park planted with mediterranean plants. Good walking shoes are recommended. You enter the fort through one of the four bastions to discover a large round courtyard surrounded by 3 story walls. From the sentinel walk at the top of the fortifications, you enjoy a beautiful panoramic view from Monaco to Antibes. Take the guided tour to fully appreciate the rich history of the site, from King Henri II to Napoleon. The guides are very knowledgeable and love to answer your questions. A nice cultural break.

Fort Carre: Good Location near the beach

-Free Parking available near the Fort
-Admission is paid but it may be closed on Sunday
-10 minutes walk to the Fort
-It's very confusing to find the entry as no proper signboards

We took quite a long walk from the Marché Provincial in Antibes to Fort Carre.

The walk along the promenade was nice, but in the midday heat, was perhaps not the wisest decision.

After the promenade, the walk up to Fort Carre from the gate is best taken on the route on the left, through the nature reserve, winding it's way up to the fort.

Alternatively, you can walk the path on the right, which takes you up a very steep path, which is moderately shorter but may take longer if you aren't good with steep climbs (we took this route back to leave, when it was only a decent downhill).

Up until this point, the experience was enjoyable, however, upon reaching the Fort, we discovered that the admission requirement for students was €1.50 (Peculiar we thought, as we had received free entry for almost all attractions in Nice, Antibes and Cannes so far).

In addition, the Fort only accepts Cash payments and so having spent all our money at the market in the morning, we were left with no way to pay.

I find it difficult to understand why a tourist attraction of this scale does not have a card reader, even the green grocer in the market had one!

So a disappointing trip, considering we weren't able to see any of the Fort at all for such a stupid reason.

No information about entry Prices or the Cash-only policy is available online which would have saved us wasting our time and made the experience much better.

In addition, why put the opening time as 2pm, then make people wait until 2:30 until the first tour? The place needs better communication and advertisement of its admission requirements and functions.

Great example of historic fortifications on the coast. Notice the little 'spanish' towers in several places (rare). Spectacular walk along the coastal wall.

This fort has protected the Côte d’Azur for centuries, in particular, the port of Antibes, first built by the Greeks 2,500 years ago. It is open from 10am to 5 or 6 pm year around except on Mondays. There are great views of Antibes and all between Antibes and Nice.

We enjoyed our tour of the fort -- in English! It's interesting historically, and offers a great view of the huge harbor (over 1000 slips) and surroundings. It's a pretty long walk from old town though.

Fort Carre is superb fortress which overlooks the beautiful Marina and the Cote D' Azur. Sean Connery used the location to film Never "Say Never Again". The guided tour is good value for 3 Euros.

I don't understand why the authorities do not make more of this building. It needs better signage, marketing and you should be allowed to walk around it without a guide. The entrance is difficult to find and not inviting.

Had nothing to do one weekend, so went to Fort Carre as it was walkable from the hotel.
Good views, there is history behind the fort, but nothing too great.
