Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

For me, the so-called Van Gogh Bridge is one of the places of this planet to be seen, along with the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, the Alhambra in Granada, the Colosseum in Roma and the Ezidi Temple in Lalesh. The bridge is unfortunately no longer the original bridge painted by Vincent van Gogh at the time, as it was destroyed by the German Nazis during the Second World War. Meanwhile, the bridge is well signposted and recently there is even a kebab snack opposite it.

The directions given by the lady at the tourist office in Arles could not have been simpler: take that road, go through three roundabouts and follow the signs. So I followed the directions and reached the first roundabout, saw the sign to 'Van Gogh's Bridge' and followed it. Reached the second roundabout, no problem. By the third roundabout, the guy putting up the signs must have either run out of signs or gotten fed up because there was no sign. Perhaps I missed it because the signs, frustratingly, are right on the intersection, not a few metres BEFORE you get there. Anyway, after tootling quite happily along a very pretty country road for about 10 km, I detected a distinct absence of roundabouts and the tourist office lady had said that it was only about six km away. So I turned around and came back to the third roundabout and then saw the sign which was placed so as to be very visible to someone coming from that direction but coming from Arles would have been seen only if you looked over your shoulder. The bridge was just around the bend and what a wonderful sight it was. Just next to it is a plinth with a reproduction of Van Gogh's painting on it, just for comparison's sake. There were a couple of artists there on the bank of the canal painting the bridge. It was a very nice, sunny warm day. Admiring the bridge, I wished I'd brought a picnic basket.

The area was very busy with car traffic making it difficult to walk, except along the river. The view was nice watching the river cruiser and barges. However it was taxing to walk with a stroller (buggy.)

We were visiting Arles and St Remy de Province in May 2018 for the famous locations of Van Gogh's paintings because we both work in the Kroller Muller Museum in Otterlo, The Netherlands, which has a large Van Gogh collection. Because one of the Bridge paintings is in our collection, we wanted to visit the original site and see the real bridge. This location however confused us. We could not find out how the painting had been made, it seemed the bridge was darker, there now was a lock we could not understand. Finally after a Google search we found out that this is NOT THE REAL BRIDGE! It is a replica built on a different location. The original location was destroyed in WW2, just like the yellow house. However the Arles Tourist bureau presents this bridge as the original site where the painting was made. We felt cheated, The only original thing here is the canal. This canal was the same but the original bridge was a few kilometres away. Still it is a lovely scenery, which captures some aspects of the original painting. We would have felt less confused and less cheated if the bridge had been presented as a replica.

The original bridge was pulled down in the twenties, and rebuilt in the fifties when tourists started looking for the site.

I was really surprised reading the mixed reviews! I thought it was perfect! I loved the fact it was in the middle of countryside which on a beautiful sunny day was stunning!
We went to have a look around 4-5 pm, bought a bottle of nice wine, picnic food and a blanket and thoroughly enjoyed sitting in front of the bridge, enjoying our meal and wine and letting the sun kiss our shoulders!
There was literally no one there which was great and the previously mentioned by others abandoned, graffiti covered building next door, well just added to the Van Gogh feel, beauty and distortion all at once! I'd love to buy it!
We saw all the Van Gogh related places in Arles and by far this one was our favourite, and although some say it is not authentic at all, it felt the most authentic of them all!

Probably not practical if you are just here for a day, but definitely worthwhile if you are up for the about an hour’s hike each way - pleasant walk after crossing the motorway along the bank of the canal. Also it is, like Alyscamp, pretty much deserted.

Oh, it is the best van gogh footsteps, the bridge doesn't change from 120 years before.we rent a bicycle ( Eric, L'aubergine rouge owner rent them for us) , and it is alittle far for walking, specially for handicapped one like me.But I saw many people were walking during the route, and think, yes, to reach this point MUST walk, especially early morning, to imagine what van gogh done, before, every day in sun and wind of Arles.
Please note, one of the signs, just after the bridge ( I mean the big bridge in town, not van gogh point) mislead you to opposite way, after this bridge, turn left, and left AGAIN, not right.

We were told that this was not the bridge Van Gogh painted nor was this the site where he painted the bridge. The original bridge was closer to Arles, while this is around 4kms from the city.
The original bridge was pulled down and rebuilt much later when tourists started looking for the site.
