- Feebee0801Lysterfield, Australia172 contributionsBest bed I’ve ever slept in!After leaving St Tropez, we drove to Provence and decided to stay at this beautiful chateau. The weather was horrid the day we arrived and not knowing the area Google Maps directed us via the back entrance. It took a little while to eventually find the hotel reception. So if you’re driving be mindful of this. The reception staff were exceptional, gave us a tour of the property (even though it was very wet). There was ample parking available near our room which was beneficial given the weather. Our room was just beautiful and immediately wished we had of been staying longer than just one night. I can honestly say the bed in our room was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The next morning , I did not want to get out! Our room catered for all the amenities we needed. We decided to have dinner in the La Source restaurant. Have to say this was an extreme let down. The staff spoke very little english and didn’t really seem interested in assisting with the translation of the French menu. The food we did order was not great and barely palatable. Yet very expensive. The restaurant was busy, and the service was very poor. It seemed all the staff were far more interested in serving locals than Australian hotel guests. The next morning I was hesitant to have breakfast in the same hotel, however it was a much nicer experience. Guess it’s breakfast is a much easier menu to provide to hotel guests. I would definitely recommend this beautiful property for accommodation if you’re in the area. I’d just be aware of the restaurant choice you make.Hello, Thank you for taking the time to leave us your review and we are delighted that you enjoyed the beauty and comfort of our hotel. Regarding your dinner at La Source restaurant, we are sorry that our staff did not live up to your expectations regarding the English translation of the menu. We normally offer a translated menu which the waiters must have forgotten to offer you. We will be sure to pass on your comments to the department concerned so that this incident does not happen again. We hope that this incident will not prevent you from returning to enjoy our estate. - keith s2 contributionsRomantic manicured setting in Provence paradiseEnjoyed a fabulous weekend in Room 10 on this amazing domaine. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The manicured grounds were dreamy. Vineyards, hedges, lavender, wildflowers, stonework. The pool was beautiful. Wine was excellent and presented in a classy stmosphere. The tapas and the gastronomic restaurant were perfect. Bed was big and comfortable, and the rooms are modern and up to date. Ours had 2 levels with 1.5 baths, and even though close to the breakfast area, it was quiet. - David O31 contributionsA nice place to stay, especially for food enthusiasts. My wife and I stayed at Château de la Gaude for a couple of nights during our vacation in France. The château itself is stunning, and the rooms are beautifully designed, retaining the charm of the historic building. There are four restaurants on-site, including Le Art, which is an incredible dining experience you shouldn’t miss if you have the chance. The hotel’s location is ideal, just 10-15 minutes from the city center. Room service is quick, which is always a plus. However, we did have a few concerns with other services. Our room had an issue with the A/C, which wasn’t resolved despite mentioning it several times, causing my wife to have a poor first night due to the room being too warm. Additionally, the housekeeping service fell short—there was no replacement coffee, and some dead insects remained in the corners of the room. For a hotel of this caliber, this is disappointing. One of our favourite hotels. We were the only guests staying immediately pre lockdown in March 2020 and decided to return this year. While we weren’t upgraded like our first visit, the room which we had (deluxe double) was really lovely.
We arrived very early during an incredible thunderstorm with a river literally flowing down the access road. While our room was being prepared we had drinks in La Source which we were amazed were complementary (two glasses of champagne plus coffees and water) and our room was made available well before the normal check in time.
We ate in L’Art (truly exceptional) and La Source which is also really good. The staff are very efficient but also friendly. The surroundings are beautiful and it’s easy access into Aix.
We’ve already booked our third visit.

We spent 2 nights at the hotel. Since our arrival, in our suite, there was a really strong sewer smell. This was particularly unbearable when we later came back to the room from having dinner in their Michelin-star restaurant. The morning after I spoke with the concierge complaining about it. They told me that they were going to take care of the problem and that they would have eventually changed our room. When we came back in the evening everything was still the same, same room and same smell. I complained again, and after 10 minutes a lady appeared in our room and started spraying all around the room and awful deodorant with the only result that the room smelled like a public bathroom for half an hour before the original sewer small came back. I complained again telling the concierge that we were not okay with sleeping again in the room and that, at least, since "Chateau de la gaude" is a Relais Chateau (5 stars) they should have compensated us for the discomfort suffered. The lady at the desk wrote everything on the computer, said she was going to take care of it and that was all. Nobody checked on us again, they didn't offer us neither a new room or anything else (a free breakfast might have been at least a sign) and when I checked out, the same lady who knew everything about the smell didn't say a word about the problem.
One more thing, our neighbor on the first night had a really bad cough and it was like having him in the bed: poor sound proofing for a 5 stars hotel.

There is so much potential for this property. It’s on beautiful grounds and has a beautiful set up. There is an impressive wine store and extraordinary art throughout the hotel. But there were a lot of problems. My partner and I read the reviews about the poor quality of service, as well as the responses from the owner saying he was aware of these issues and was working on addressing them. So we decided to give this a try. Unfortunately, the service still was so lacking with every experience we had. I struggled to get the right attention and the right service. I had to constantly remind the front desk of our requests, and stay on top of them - like a babysitter. Another issue we had was that we were staying in the room/ pod that was “off the grid” from the main hotel -meaning across the wine vineyard and about a 5 min away away. I understand that the owner wanted people who’ve stayed in those rooms to have a natural experience, be at one with nature, etc. but we found it really unpractical. There was no phone and no wifi or even 3G or 4G. We had several problems with our room and had no way of calling the reception. Our mobile phones didn’t even work. I asked the hotel, what would happen if one of my children back home in london needed me? Or if I had an emergency ? I had no way of reaching out to the hotel at all. When I asked the front desk reception about this, and asked for the rational behind this, they shrugged their shoulders and said that this is what the owner had decided to do with the rooms and they agreed with me.
Finally, I left a note when we checked out for the owner with my email address, and offered to give him my feedback if he could contact me. He never contacted me. I would say give your business to another worthy hotel until this one has it’s actually together.

Beautiful surroundings fooled our experience at La Gaude. From our arrival through our stay, it was clear that although well-intentioned, the staff was not well-trained. For this premise to be listed as part of the Relais et Chateau, it falls short of being part of this prestigious honor. For the high price of our room stay, the room was extremely confining, with no place to put our clothes and we lived out of our suitcases. Breakfast was not included, and prices at the several restaurants were absurdly expensive with such limited choices. When asked how my stay experience was going, I pointed out to the receptionist all my concerns, and he agreed that customer service was not on par with what this hotel advertises for. They offered me a bottle of their wine to apologize for all the inconveniences during our stay, yet nothing is going to replace the poor return on the value, and although the premise offers so much potential, the quality of service is subpar. We also heard from other guests who were staying at the premises during our visit. I even attempted to contact the organization of Relais et Chateau, but I guess they are not willing to listen to the customer, as there was no means of directly convening my concerns about La Gaude;
so if you are looking for a "wow" experience at this location, go look elsewhere.

Spent three idyllic evenings here. It was just bliss!
The bedroom interior was absolutely lovely, very comfortable bed and great air conditioning. I was a little worried as we were on the ground floor and there were tables and chairs close in the courtyard close to our room (my husband is a very light sleeper) however there was no noise, so it was not an issue.
The grounds are spectacular, we had lovely walks, including around the vineyards.
The pool area is absolutely wonderful, we swam and sat around there for hours.
La Source Restaurant, the brasserie was the best hotel restaurant food we have ever eaten. It was so delicious, very well executed and the service was amazing. We could not get over how good the food was, my Husband is a chef so and was very impressed. The burrata mouse is an absolute must. Really cannot recommend the restaurant more highly.
I needed to use a room for a work call and the staff went out of their way to help me find somewhere private, it was much appreciated.
Overall it is a wonderful place to escape to for a few days. It is also only about a 15 minute drive to the heart of Aix en Provence.

Luxurious resort set in huge well maintained grounds. Exceptionally polite staff and excellent service. We happened to be late for dinner one night because our car broke down and we thought we would have to go without dinner but we were in for a surprise for soon after we reached the hotel, the restaurant manager himself came to our room and saw to it that his staff laid out the dinner in our room. We were really touched by this hospitality. I would certainly recommend the Chateau de La Gaude to anyone who visits Aix - en - Provence.

Good points :
- An exceptional site: a country house and its farmhouses decorated with a French garden and a park
- An ideal location: the Château is located 15 minutes from downtown Aix en Provence and the Grand Théâtre de Provence
- The quality of the renovation and interior decoration (solid oak interior doors, restaurant decoration worthy of fashionable places in London or New York - the incredible work of Joana Vasconcelos in the "K" restaurant)
- The comfort of the rooms, worthy of a 5-star hotel
- The quality of the catering offered at breakfast and in the "La Source" and "K" restaurants (exceptional and creative pastries and breads made on site - the "oil pump", quality of the products used in the composition of the dishes)
- The kindness of the staff present in the restaurant at breakfast
Improvement points:
- Presence of more staff at reception. When we arrived on a Tuesday evening at 6:45 p.m., there was no one (!) and we had to wait for the return of the employee who had left her shift to accompany the previous arrivals to their rooms
- A wine list with more bottles for less than €150. This would encourage frequentation of restaurants by hotel residents during the week.

For a restaurant with a Michelin star, too many attempts at blending that are not successful. Many dishes too acidic, misuse of Japanese lemon and other spices of this country, we thought we chose the gourmet restaurant, not Japanese! The Spanish ham melon, the pieces of ham are so tiny that we can't perceive the taste we're being touted for. Lots of raw (it's fashion) and bland desserts, which are visually alike (two tubes filled with cream) The drink served with is undrinkable, acidic, and therefore uninteresting.
Failed experiment for me so, too bad, the signature dish L'Artichoke Violet was good. Too much trying to create improbable mixtures to amaze, we get lost. The subtle flavor of simplicity is an art, not found in the restaurant Le Art

Bonjour,

Lastly, the Internet service was problematic. I couldn’t get it to work on one of my devices, even after trying various solutions like restarting and forgetting the network.
That being said, I would still recommend this place, particularly for events or larger groups, as the setting is truly beautiful.

Came for lunch at the La Source brasserie following recommendations.
The property is magnificent, particularly the French gardens in front of the main building and the Aix stone buildings.
The only downside is the quality/price ratio for the brewery is not good: small quantity and high price for average quality.
We have not tried the other restaurants.

Hi, not sure about the wine tasting but you not have to be a hotel guest to eat at one of the restaurants. Nearby you have also chateau la coste ( the setting is stunning) where you can eat and do wine tasting without being a guest. ( the Francis mallmann one is very recommendable)
Hope this helps
