Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely street in a gorgeous city. This wide boulevard is perfect for a market. We went on a Thursday and caught the morning 'big market ' and later the artisan evening market. I would advise wandering into the old town for lunch- we went to the wonderful La Pizza( see review) and then to the art gallery for some extra culture. Don't miss Aix and Mirabeau.

The Cours Mirabeau is the main strolling boulevard through the center of the old city in Aix. It is here where the Christmas markets take place as well as the weekly clothing markets on Saturdays. The boulevard is lined with lovely trees, with fountains scattered throughout the boulevard. It's a wonderful place to take a stroll and enjoy the people watching.
It should be noted that, unlike the Champs de Elysee in Paris, there are very few shops along the Cours Mirabeau outside real estate companies and banks. This clearly is a walking/strolling venue...not one for shopping (for that, head off the boulevard and into the small side streets).

My wife and I walked along Cours Mirabeau the first evening we arrived in Aix. The highlight was the next morning when the Saturday market was set up along the entire length of the boulevard. We spent about two hours looking at the different vendors, mostly clothing. It was a fun time observing the people in the market.

The road around the famous fountain at the beginning of the Cours Mirabeau has now been closed to through traffic, except for taxis, buses and bicycles. All the buses are electric. So, stroll up this beautiful street to get a taste of what historical cities in Europe will be like after all vehicles become electric. And look at the fountain from up close.

Read about the clothing market on Thursday. It was fantastic to walk up and down the vendors. Lots of great clothes and shoes and purses and belts! Some items as cheap as 10 euros for shoes and dresses! Definitely needed 2 hours to walk and see all vendors

Cours Mirabeau is a beautiful street. We walked the length of the whole area and spent a long time just looking around. The street is beautifully tree lined and it is wide, so it looks fantastic. It is perfect for a walk. There are plenty of shops as well, including many cafes and restaurants. There are also several fountains along this stretch of road, the nicest of which is the Fontaine de La Rotonde.

Personally didn’t see the hype in this location. There’s a very large market on Thursday for anyone interested. Yes there’s some fountains and some posher shops but all in all I wouldn’t go out my way to visit this location. The cafes over charge as you’d probably expect. Lots of students around lunchtime and far too many electronic scooters.

Walking from the fountain Rotonde up the Cours Mirabeau, most of the restaurants, cafes and tourist shops are on your left hand side and commercial offices on your right. It’s a lovely wide road lined with pretty trees and hosts the main market on Saturdays. Menus are bilingual. It’s not a cheap area in which to eat and drink but equally it is pretty and very French.

Cours Mirabeau is a beautiful area with its many cafes lining the rotund. The main fountain adds to the charm of this central shopping and dining district. The tourism office is located here which is ideal for those taking tours and those looking for activities. Monoprix is along the avenue of shops and restaurants.

Beautiful pedestrian avenue in heart of Aix-en-Provence. Dates to about 1650s. It is 440 meters long and 42 meters wide with double rows of trees for shade. Lots of shops, bars and restaurants with outdoor seating. My favorite parts were the fountains and beautiful wooden doors.

I’m travelling alone so I’m wanting to spend my time in Aix very close or on the Cours Mirabeau so I’m asking for apartment or hotel suggestions please?
Written 3 September 2019
We very much enjoyed the Hotel Cézanne about five minutes walk from the Cours. It’s also close to the local commuter rail station to Marseille should you want to go there.

Are there hot springs that we can swim in while in Aix En Provence? We’re visiting in October.
Thank-you.
Written 29 June 2018

What a pity I didn’t see your question before! In fact all those huge roadworks are going to last till September 2019...

What is open on Bastille Day? Museums, restaurants? Would Avignon historic sites be closed?
Written 28 May 2017
Most historic sites are open especially tourist destinations.
It's very much like 4th of July so mostly a business holiday, some museums may be closed so check ahead with the local Bureau de tourisme
