This museum is lodged in a large Brutalist style building and it feels airy and spacious. Within that, there were various mezzanine levels and lots of stairs. It accommodates the local archaeological finds. The most interesting artefacts by far in this museum were the Paleolithic engravings on stone and also of interest were the Roman tombstones. There were a number... More

With exhibitions on 3 floors, this museum and gallery is impressive. The archeological section with visible excavations and Roman relics is fascinating, showing how Poitiers has been an important centre through many centuries. The art exhibitions in the upper galleries are very interesting, we were fortunate that the women artists and models exhibition "Belle de Jour" was on during our... More

Spent a quiet morning wandering through this museum. It was not crowded at all, so I was able to enjoy looking at all of the works on my own time. The reception staff was extremely helpful even though I speak very little French - they were able to help me in English and loaned me a guidebook.

We were wandering around the southern part of Poitiers, taking in the huge cathedral nearby when we stumbled across the museum. From the outside it does not seem anything special but we spent a very pleasant two hours there. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist who was only too happy to help out my imperfect French with her English.... More

Arrived too late for entry before lunch but explained that we were particularly interested in seeing the painting of the Siege de Poitiers painted in 1619 by Francoise Nautre and wouldn't be able to return in the afternoon as we would be on route. The delightful lady in reception took us round to have a quick look at the painting... More

Very interesting museum with prehistoric and roman items with remnants of old city walls on display ,Some beautiful paintings and sculptures are also on display. While we were visiting other exhibits on another floor were being prepared. Give yourself plenty of time if interested in these .Entrance was only €2 .

This museum which is next door to the St. Jean Bapistry has a large range of prehistoric and Gallo-Roman artifacts from the area as well as a wide range of paintings and sculpture. Definitely worth a walk through.

I visited this museum specifically to see one painting in particular and ended up spending over three hours browsing the collections. The layout of the museum is confusing, and so I went backwards, chronologically, from modern to ancient. This actually worked for me, though. I was happy enough strolling through paintings and modern sculpture, but when I found the entrance... More
