Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a lovely small area to visit. We came here specifically to go to a tasting test of Cognac. The area itself is worth the visit
The walk along the river front is wonderful.

Originally a hunting forest for Francois Premier. great for dog walking, well signposted pathways, around 5km of walks. Also has riverside walk for several kilometres.
Plenty of wildlife deer, foxes and many bird species.

Parc Francois 1er is a wood in Cognac, formerly part of royal hunting grounds and now a place to walk or jog including a particularly nice stretch along the Charente. This is a calm and relaxing forest though its flora is largely recent growth.

The forest covers around 48 hectares and there are paths leading around various directions. It is a nice enough place for a stroll though a little featureless.

There are some picnic benches dotted around including a few clustered closer to the Charente. Of a Sunday lunchtime on a fairly warm day, most of the people were at a restaurant in the park rather than enjoying the nature.

In truth much of the nature is mundane. Unfortunately this is because of a hurricane at the end of 1999 which destroyed around 80% of the tree life. The municipality has done well to restock but it is clear that the growth is still young and there are really no characterful trees as yet.

The more attractive aspect of the forest is actually the river. The walk along the Charente is pleasant as it is a calm and fairly small river with woodland on either side.

The history of the forest is interesting. That history is told on boards, particularly at main routeways but also on smaller panels inside the forest. The old hunting grounds and the leisure activities of Francois I give this place its name.

Ultimately though there just isn't all that much of historical interest to see. There is hardly anything left of historical structures and the devastating hurricane seems to have stripped the place of its character.

Woods are always a good thing and it is great the municipality has replanted. For now though the only real feature is the Charente in an otherwise relatively new forest.

This is a beautiful park and totally connected with the history of the area. It has a stunning statue of King Francois at the entrance and is a beautiful place just to sit and watch people and the world go by.

Lovely park.

The park is situated a short distance from the town centre and along the river from Port Neuf bridge - consisting of a large forest area where you can cycle or go jogging, picnic areas, cafe/hotel as well as children's play areas. Not as formal or pretty as the Jardin Public closer to town but more of an "activity" park.

Spent mayny wonderful hours with my camera wanding the woodlands; even spotted various deer wandering about without a care in the world. Also spendt many appy days with my young dauther at the "base plein air" with plenty to ocupy her all day.

We enjoyed a great group picnic in this nice park. There were plenty of long tables with seating available, and plenty of shade under the trees. The public toilets were clean, but no soap or towels. There is an excellent children's playground, a splash pool, some adult sport equipment. It is possible to hire all kinds of equipment for tennis, boating on the Charente, etc. A family could spend a happy day here, buying food at the kiosk or at the nearby restaurant.
