About
Combining old stones and contemporary architecture, on the sites of several historical places, the "musée des savoir-faire du cognac" covers 2000m2 of exhibition space that promotes Cognac countryside, its heritage and the great human, industrial and trading adventure of the cognac. Heritage world is a reminder of the historical wealth of the Pays du cognac thanks to many interactive displays (models, scenographic show, some dioramas). An excellent starting point for any journey in the region of or the town of Cognac. Technological world of the cognac is all about the different jobs, skills and trades that revolve around the cognac (vineyards, distillation, barrel-making, packaging, marketing). The visitor is invited to discover these different spaces evoking the "liqueur of the gods" and its secret alchemies. To extend or end this visit, to offer or treat yourself, a shop offers a wide range of regional products.

Superb museum for young and old. Very nice scenography, very educational. Small questionnaire for children along the way. Welcoming staff available to answer our questions throughout the visit. We recommend it!

My wife and I spent a week in Cognac - and what a week! We visited four cognac houses and learned a lot. But before we went on the first such tour, we visited this museum and it was time incedibly well spent. I highly recommend a visit to this musuem before going on any specific cognac house tour because you will come so much better prepared and you will then appreciate the tours to their fullest.
We spent about 1.5 hours and the musuem is easy to visit because you walk a predetermined path. It is pretty small but very well curated. For English speakers, headphones are provided together with a wireless player that starts automatically as you approach each video display - no need to keep track of and press numbers on the player.
After completing the visit you will have learned all the basics about the cognac making process and will have seen samples of bottles, cognac labels and advertising posters, etc. With this knowledge you can take any cognac house tour later and appear a connoisseur! OK, not necessarily, but it's a very good start.
Even for people who have a lot of experience with cognac, whether practical or theoretical, the visit promises to add new knowledge.
The cost is only EUR 3.- per person. Very friendly staff, and clean restrooms. Parking is free - just drive up the little one-way road beside the museum and there is a large lot with free parking up to the right. That lot serves you well for walking the old town of Cognac as well. You can also park down by the quai but it can be a bit stressful to do parallel parking with cars zipping by in both directions.

A very informative presentation of how Cognac is made, packaged and marketed. I got the impression it was far more objective than a tour of a distillery house would be as well as being far less expensive. Most of the displays have text in English and headphones are supplied at no charge to hear English audio of the films included as part of the tour.

In a spectacular site in the middle of the old town, this museum takes you from the wines to the marketing of Cognac all over the world. Fascinating product and very well designed museum.

This museum contains a fabulous history with interesting tidbits and artifacts about the making and history of cognac. It took a good 2 hours to get through the entire museum and, luckily, the plaques were in English and French. I was especially interested in the process of bottle making in the early days, labels from all over the world, and specialty bottles that have emerged over the past few hundred years. It is a great afternoon stop if you are working your way through visiting the houses and a great place for non-alcoholic souvenirs!

Our travel guide said that this one was ‘not to miss’ but we were a bit disappointed. Very large, lots of objects but except the word ‘cognac’ there was no English word to be found. An interesting introduction movie would be understandable if it had English subtitles….. A large collection of cognac bottles and labels, that’s for sure!

What a little gem! The exhibits are in English-quite a first for us in France! We also got a free audio translation for the videos-great films of the history & processing of cognac. Who knew it was so complicated? Don't miss this on your visit!

This is a fantastic museum and complements any brandy tour you may wish to go on. If you go here first of all you will learn all about the brandy making process. There are headsets that translate any videos you may see as soon as you walk in close proximity to them.
The museum is very well laid out although I found the stairs towards the end of the museum tour a little difficult to negotiate. I'm sure if I had looked I would have found a disabled elevator somewhere.
When I looked on the website after visiting it says there indeed are disabled facilities.
You simply must visit this as it gives a great insight into Cognac. It is relatively cheap too.
