About
Crossing the threshold of the Martell House, in Cognac, means entering a unique story. It is the story of a man, Jean Martell who founded his cognac house, in 1715 under the reign of Louis XIV. It is the story of a house which, from one generation to the next, has kept alive the age-old knowhow of vine- growers, distillers, barrel-makers, and cellar masters. It is the story of a beautiful region, whose crus bear poetic names: Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies, Fins Bois. It is the story of a French art of living made up of refinement and elegance, whose spirit gives Martell cognacs their clearly recognizable style. It is a story to be discovered, explored… and savoured.

Our newly wed son and wife booked this tour with us and Holly was our guide. It was a fascinating tour and Holly was incredibly knowledgeable. We all loved Holly’s approach to climate change and addressing issues and it certainly made us think about making changes. The tasting was also great and we were so looked after. Thank you Holly - we have recommended you to our French friends for their visit!

We went in August, I booked by email only a day in advance, and we ended up being only the both of us with the tour guide! We went in a camper van, and we succeeded in parking in their car park! The tour was great; the tour guide was French with a perfect English accent and enthusiastic. We really enjoyed the tour with at the end the degustation of Cognac and a cocktail at the ... rooftop! Worth doing it if you are in Cognac :)

Great tour of Martell visitor centre; fascinating history explained by our excellent tour guide. Booked in advance online; well priced at €25 which includes tour and tasting. Would highly recommend even if you don’t like brandy!!

It was my second visit of a cognac factory in the region. The excursion was very lively, lots of interesting things to see and learn. I was impressed the most by the part of the cellar where there are hundreds of different liquids (eau de vie). To make the #1 cognac of the place - Martell D'Or it requires to mix up to 600 different liquids. It justifies the price for the bottle.
Highly reccomend.
Highly reccomend.

As we wanted to ensure we were able to do a tour in English we organised a tour, via email, prior to leaving Australia. They were very prompt in replying to emails and booking the tour proved to be quite easy.
We ended up with a private tour because the other people who had booked did not show up.
We found the tour very informative. Prior to the tour we did not have any knowledge of how Cognac was made. The process of making Cognac as well as the history of it was very well explained. The displays were very well done and the buildings are very atmospheric.
Our guide, Celia, was excellent. Her English was very good and she was very easy to understand. She was very passionate about the Cognac and really wanted to pass her passion on. Although there were a lot of products available for purchase we were not put under any pressure to buy anything.
We did get to taste the Cognac at the end and whilst this was good even without the tasting, we would have found this tour very interesting.

We had a fantastic tour in the house of Martel - such an interesting history and lively buildings. Got to taste the perfect XOs but the best part of all was our marvellous guide Celia - that on her very friendly way gave us a tour to remember. Very good English presentation with lots of facts for us cognac lovers. Thank you so much!

Not thrilled with the blandness of the tour (compared to some tours of US Distilleries and German Breweries), but it is a nice place to stop and see. I enjoyed the shop which included a small taste-testing area (for a fee).

We were seven people doing the basic 7€ tour. The guide spoke really fast, so for the inexperienced a lot of information were lost, but at the same time it kept it short and interesting. Martell has made a real effort with their visitors-center, and this is one of the nicest tours I've been on.
Good value for the money. Would recomend for those who are curious about Cognac.

We live in France and have done a lot of the main Cognac House tours. Martell is far and away the best. Both the English & French tours are informative, helpful, and enjoyable. The staff go out of their way to be polite and friendly. When we have people over to stay we always take them to Martell.

What is the difference between the Craftsmanship and Borderies tours? Will I be able to take away a bottle of cognac in both tours?

Dear Elks E,
Thank you for your interest in Martell !
The Craftmanship tour includes the visit of our historical cellars, the bottling of your own Noblige Cognac (20cl) and a double tasting of the Noblige, neat and as a cocktail.
The Borderies tour includes the visit of our historical cellars as well, plus our vineyard and distillery. You get a bottle of our Réserve de Borderies at the end (70cl).
We hope this answers your question and would be glad to welcome you for a visit !
Best regards,
The Martell's guides.

Bonjour,
