We went here today for some tastings, we had a chance to taste as much or as little as we wanted. The lady was very helpful and knowledgeable so we ended up buying a couple of wines. She didn’t have a wine we were specifically looking for but she gave us a card with their name and where they are on it which we will visit tomorrow.

We called in to find out about some of the local wines we'd not yet tasted. The lady was friendly and well informed. We decided to buy three different wines as a result of our tastings and were very happy with the result.

The person who did the tastings was alone but she is very professional and knows the wines well, so you have to wait a little before being able to taste! Interesting choice of wines, particularly organic wines

I dont know if ist was because we were off season but it was not possible to taste any wine and the person at the counter was not very enthusiastic to tell us anything about the wines she was selling. As I asked about to different wines I had the impression she did not know very much about the vines at all.
Rather go to the wine bar La Tonnelle in Saumur where you can taste and buy wine. Check the opening hours in advance.

We went here for advice on which caves to visit and tried several wines until we found a style and a grape we enjoyed which we did. We were given very good advice, directions and a map on how to get to these places, we found the staff very friendly, informative and helpful. We were given some discounted vouchers to get into Ackerman which we used and were very pleased we did (see Ackermans review)
Be warned, they do not do tastings half an hour before they close for lunch or end of day so make sure you time your visit accordingly.

Located on the banks of the Loire and offering a selection of wine from a variety of local producers (and at prices to suit all pockets) this place was a godsend. This was because we were in Saumur during a heatwave (my car thermometer said 38°!) and the thought of driving round several vineyards really wasn’t appealing. We came here instead and were really pleased: service was friendly and helpful and we were able to taste, and buy, several wines.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon with a group of 4 friends. The maison was very quiet. We were there for approximately an hour and during that time there were just two other customers, neither of who bought anything. Despite this the lady that served us was rude, unfriendly and judgemental. We are a fairly young group, but we were interested in the wine and did purchase several bottles after the tasting. Only one member of our group is fluent in French and I am learning. The other three cannot speak French, but we didn't think this would be a problem as we were told by the Office de Tourisme that the staff spoke English. The lady that served us didn't speak English and whilst I appreciate that this is France, the experience was slightly awkward because of this. The wines available for tasting are very limited, for example the shop sells a large selection of Saumur Champigny wines, but we were told that none of these were available to taste. At the end of the tasting I wanted to buy one of the 2 sparkling roses we had tasted, but wanted to try one again before purchasing. We asked if this would be possible and the lady was clearly very unhappy and put out by what I felt was a reasonable request especially as I did then purchase that particular wine. The staff member was disinterested in conversing with the member of our group that spoke French despite him attempting to make conversation on several occasions. We had to ask for information about the wines as this was not freely offered. I was looking forward to the experience, but absolutely would not recommend this place. I have also been to some of the local wine producers such as Louis de Grenelle and Ackerman and would advise a visit to these instead as the reception you will receive from their staff will be warm, welcoming and friendly, which is very different to the reception you will receive here.

First, the team of Maison des vins d’Anjou et de Saumur wish to apologize for your bad experience.
All the staff member speak english here and can propose a tasting totally in english. We don’t understand why the personn did not and why she was unfriendly with you. Unfortunately we can’t control all the staff everywhen , but it’s unacceptable and we ‘ll solve the problem.
About the tasting, we have 60 references in the shop, actually we propose a free tasting until 6 glasses for 20 differents wines. But it’s possible to try more if you paid 5€. We have no choice, otherwise we lost a lot of wines.
Once more, apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Poor selection and rude service from lady in charge who clearly did not want us to try any wine unless it was already open (and who cares if it is corked or been open 3 days?!). Plus she basically said much of it tastes the same anyway! We've been before and bought good wine so this experience was even more disappointing. Result was we spent 200 euros somewhere else!

First, the team of Maison des vins d’Anjou et de Saumur wish to apologize for your uncomfortable experience.
Our selection represente the 27 Appellations from Anjou and Saumur with 62 references, sorry if it’s not enough for you. Indeed, we can’t open the 62 references each week, so we have a Tasting schedule and we open 20 references each week. Thank a pump and specific corks we can keep our wines 1 week after opening. About the tastes of wines, we think it’s a misunderstanding, the vineyard Anjou Saumur has a specific identity but different wine’s personalities.
We apologize again for this uncomfortable experience.

Is Maison des Vins open all year round? We are visiting the area in May.

Dear Kate, we will be glad to welcome you in May. The Anjou and Saumur Wines Companies are opened from tuesday to saturday, 10:30am to 1:00pm and 3:00pm to 7:00pm.
