Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Former guide during my national service during the weekend of this fabulous museum in 1980, I always return there with pleasure.
It is the armored museum richest in material from the origin of the battle tank to today.
Its presentation is very educational and its store is well stocked.
It should be noted that many of these vehicles are in working order and can be seen dynamically during the carousel.

What a collection!!
A remarkable museum that should appeal greatly to children interested in wars that we would have preferred not to know of course.
Beyond this consideration, let us highlight the research and development work of about 200 German, Russian, French, American tanks...
A visit lasting at least 2 hours.
To favor rainy days.

The museum is not to be missed because its collection of armoured vehicles from all periods is magnificent.
This was our second visit to these places and we never tire of seeing these relics in working order.
The entrance fee is also low. Allow at least 3 hours to go around.

This museum is one of the most famous armoured museums in the world. Not to be missed. It is located 30 minutes walk from the city center. Complicated to come by public transport. Two huge hangars hold tanks from all over the world. German part not to be missed. No restaurant on site.

Taking advantage of the international model show, we visited the museum. It is a monument of armoured vehicles, very well arranged with good explanations. There are even sectional views of vehicles that allow to see the interior. Inside and outside, all well placed and clean. There is plenty to do for fans and the uninitiated. To discover for the memory of our elders.

Since the time I wish to go!
I wasn't disappointed at all, they have an incredible assortment of blind vehicles spanning several generations, the information goes to the point and there is some more detailed story about characters or even important.
Honestly if you take the time to read everything there is easy for 4h visit, I spent 2h30+ without having read everything!
I'd like to see some particular tank like: ELC AMX, T29/T32/T95 (US), but we can't have everything haha.
I highly recommend to all History enthusiasts!

A must for history buffs, one of the best armoured museums in the world. Between museum and toy store for young and old.
Personally at least 4th passage and not the last. My 5 year old son loved it, we spent 1h30, the cold pushed my wife (and unfortunately us with) towards the exit. The shop is also nice.

An impressive collection of vehicles restored or in their juice. The additional guided tour is worthwhile as the Guide is passionate and captivating. Count at least 2 hours of visit or much more.
In the regret section, no restoration point, a model space little highlighted and old toilets.

Another visit for me to the Museum of the Armored. An exceptional collection of armoured vehicles and a paradise for the lover of military history, the modeller or simply the tourist. I also regularly visit the other reference in this field: the Tank Museum in Bovington, Great Britain. The two are generally equivalent in terms of pieces but the museography is more neat on the other side of the Channel. I think that the space available (and the budget?) is not unrelated to this: the armoured vehicles in Saumur are tightened against each other, in line, with the exception of some models, in a suite of hangars.. Models lack a bit of realism and explanations are limited to a panel in front of each armored vehicle. All this exudes a military sobriety. Indeed, as their website says: "A museum by and for the military." The shop is also more limited. Hats off to the volunteers who maintain this heritage.

I would like to know when the tanks actually start up and drive down the streets?
I will be there around Mid June.

I do not thing that they do at all. At least they didn’t when I was there.
Check their website, which is pretty good

Hi, can anyone tell me if tickets give you access over more than one day like Bovington and some other attractions, ie pay on the day and then get free return visits for the next year?

Planning a trip to Paris this summer and would like to visit this museum; is it necessary to rent a car or is there a tour company that provides a trip to the museum? When I google how to get to Saumur, it says to go to Tours and then use regional SNCF but that looks not very reliable. Thank you for any help that can be provided.

Hi, I visited the tank museum in Saumer last week and travelled via train from Paris (albeit Charles De Gaulle airport.) I got the TGV from the airport to Angers but the Tours route you mention is similar but brings you into Saumur from the other direction. I found the trains very reliable, clean and ok time. The TGV itself is a real experience too if you like trains and a bit more relaxing than driving.
From Saumer railway station it's 10-15 minute walk into the town to get a bus (no 34 stops about 100 yards from the entrance) or jump in a taxi right outside the station.
Not sure how well you speak French but all the trains and the buses I went on have screens (as well as voice announcements) showing the next stop so you don't have to rely on someone reminding you where to get off or listen all the time.
Hope that's some help and hope you enjoy your trip.
