Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It was a rainy Sunday in Saumur so I looked for something to do, a little over Chateau, went to see if this museum of the French Cavalery was open.
It turned out to be a very worthwhile and interesting experience and if you have the slightest interest in Military History you will enjoy your visit.
The Museum covers the history of the French Cavalery from the inception at the end of the Middle Ages until today, yes Today, as today it is the mechanised cavalery, Tanks.
The displays are very good and with text on each display in English your time is not spent wondering what it's all about.

I heard about the the French Cavalry museum by reading one of General Pattons Biographies. After WW1 he toured France and made stop in Saumur to visit the Cavalry School. Reading this I new I had to go. The Museum had so many artefacts. The attendant was a member of the military and seeing my interest, despite a slight language barrier was more than happy to answer my questions. He showed my a pair of riding boots and a helmet donated by General Patton himself!

Very interesting subject & superbly located at the old French cavalry school area in Saumur. Takes you on an historical journey of cavalry in French wars and peace. Very nice exhibitions of uniforms, arms, equipment, equipage and horses over time. Leads up to the cavalry's successor - mechanization as with Tanks. Horses nearby, but we didn't see them. Definitely worth a visit. ...

This museum has a very good display of equipment and uniforms belonging to the cavalry through the ages. The information was in French but it is well worth a visit if you are interested in cavalry history.

I arrived early February to visit, but it is closed until later this month. Tripadvisor shows it open, but it is not. Also, their website is only in French, and I could not find a calendar for it. On their door is the schedule for the year.

Saumur is a beautiful city but if you can tear yourself away from its attractions this museum is a short walk from the centre and is well worth a visit. Obviously, you need to be interested in history and cavalry, but then, you wouldn't visit if you weren't! It's also worth pointing out that we are talking here about French cavalry. Put aside all thoughts of the Scots Greys apart from a fleeting reference concerning Waterloo! Talking of Waterloo, there was a very interesting model of the battle when I visited. It may have now finished but the museum does have a good programme of temporary exhibitions. The main museum has fascinating in its own right and the instructive display cases give a very clear analysis of the development of the cavalry as an independent arm if the military. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It does help to speak French, but most exhibits have captions in English as well.

This is a real surprise as a specialist military museum. I'm not an expert, but found it extremely interesting, so for someone really in the know it will be absolutely fascinating.
We too were fortunate to see the Waterloo battle landscape and had a very interesting, lengthy, chat with its creator. Apparently he has exhibited his huge tableau at various places, internationally, but never in the U.K!

There is a lot to see here, and we were lucky to see a mock up of the battle of Waterloo, built by an enthusiast.
