What can you say... Its the Cadre Noir. We had the short tour around the stables and arena, ( we had done the full show before, again well worth the visit). The staff guide took time out of the French tour speech to explain everything to us in English and made us feel very welcome. We had a good look... More

We really enjoyed the tour that allowed us to get close to the horses, as well as see members of La Cadre Noir and apprentices training. It was very interesting to learn about the care given to the horses. The tour guide learned that I did not speak great French, so she made an effort to tell me things in... More

No wonder this scores so highly as an attraction in the Loire Valley. We went to see a public performance and the horses and riders are amazing. Whole event was well organised, unsurprisingly with military precision. Not many loos on the site so this could be a problem in busy days over the summer. No photography is allowed in the... More

Visited whilst staying in Saumur. Found the tour guide very helpful and informative, The environment the horses live in is superb and although my partner is not really a "horsey" person, he could not help but be impressed by the magnificent animals or the obvious love and respect that is shown to them. Whilst we walked from our hotel to... More

Have been scheming for a few years to take wife to see one of their displays. Found the chance, planning a few weeks visit to southern France via the Portsmouth/Saint Malo ferry into Brittany which for a great change meant avoiding some boring motorways around and to the east of Paris especially those claustrophobic low-roofed tunnels. Saumur itself is a... More

Spent a great couple of hours here. Joined a tour where the language was French but our excellent guide did help by explaining points to us in English. There are English based tours but we decided not to wait for one of these.Saw a senior instructor in the main indoor arena putting an experienced dressage horse through its paces-what a... More

Le Cadre Noir sounded pretty boring but it turned out to be quite different. This is the place where black-clad riders learn to do amazing things on their horses, There are various events you can attend but on an ordinary day there are guided tours around the entire place, with a history of how it came about. Our tour was... More

The tour that we went on was interesting & informative, it's a very well run & fascinating plus we were up close & personal with the horses themselves as we toured the Stable blocks & tack room. We recommend this tour, it's interesting & our guide translated all of her speech for us.
