Easy car-parking off the main road. Entrance via the gate-house and across the moat. Unguided visiting chapel and grounds is cheaper but you don't get to see all of the available rooms without the guide. There are translarion sheets with all of the basic info. in each room which you pick up and leave behind. They are in several languages... More

As other reviewers have commented we included Chateau de Serrant because Michelin gave it 3 stars in our France Guide. We were also underwhelmed. The chateau exterior and grounds are in need of repairs and you may only visit the interior with a guide whose presentation was in French. There are written guides in each room in English. It is... Since our last visit the main rooms are now open for the public to wander through, in addition to guided tours running throughout the day. There are also very useful information sheets available in a variety of languages that describe the history of the chateau and interesting elements of the different rooms. A beautiful chateau unspoilt by the commercialisation shown... More

Well worth paying to do the tour to gain access to this beautiful chateau. Very liveable, and the library was magnificent. An overview in English (paper-based) is available free of charge.

One afternoon, while visiting Angers we had time to visit one chateau in the country side around the city. We looked at our Michelin Map and saw that Chateau de Serrant was near by and Michelin had given the Chateau a three star rating, so we chose to go there. What we found when we arrived was very disappointing. The... More

This is a lovely chateau. we enjoyed our visit but it was partly spoilt by the fact that we could not go upstairs because a private coach party was being shown around. we did ask but were told we would need to wait an hour, which we didn't have. so we looked around the chapel and the outside, plus the... A great tour by the guide who clearly knew the chateau very well. The place is pretty neat but a little run down. The best word to describe it might be authentique. Guided tools show the library and great rooms upstairs which are a must. An amazing assortment of books and some amazing furniture.

If you are in the area you must visite le chateau de Serrant. You will be able to visit a very well furnished castle and the owners live there and try to maintain the place together.

First impressions were not massively optimistic about this Chateau - the outside needs bit of work and there are various areas which look quite dilapidated. Inside though was incredible. So much to see. Beautiful rooms and very impressive pieces. The only negative is that we couldn't take photos inside! Definitely one of the Loire gems.

A great experience. A great library with an original of 'Encyclopie. A great chapel where the aristocracy could attend Mass from their beds.
