It's very surprising to find a site so large as this. In the village there is an old storage facility, a Roman baths, theatre and a temple, all fairly well preserved. The museum is very comprehensive with a 5 minute video to watch as well. Very good value for a 2 hour trip.

We visited the Jublains Roman town twice in the past year. We happened on it the first time when we saw signs on the road pointing towards " Jublains Ville Romaine". A great detour! What a wonderfully informative museum and site to visit! The museum is top notch and the ruins of the Roman amphitheater, enclosed fort, baths and temple... More

The Gallo-Roman town of Jublains is a short distance from the city of Mayenne. It seems scarecely credible that a site of such historic importance is not better known. The museum offers excellent facilities with displays in English and German as well as French. There is good provision for the hearing impaired and the partially sited, and the loos are... More

What a surprise. In this lovely little village (pop about 300), there's a Roman .... Fort Temple Amphitheatre Bath If you want half a day of culture in the Mayenne area whilst on holiday, entry is free to everything except the Fort, but the charge there is modest and brings with it the museum (I ticked the boxes in the... Almost two thousand years ago, the region conquered by Roman invasion around what is now the town of Mayenne in France became the site of the new roman town Novodunum. A fort was built on the site and the town nearby extensively modernized with roads, municipal facilities, a council building, classic Roman baths, an amphitheater and a temple. Despite the... More

We were staying nearby and fancied a low key afternoon out, following a long drive the previous day. We had picked up a leaflet about Jublains and having read the previous review, drove over to investigate. Jublains was a large Roman settlement, with large features including a fortress, thermal baths, theatre and temple. These are still present, in varying degrees... More

We happened upon Jublains en route for our gite further south & were so intrigued that we made a special trip back. We were so pleased we did. The whole (modern) village is part of the roman town - the parish church has even raised its floor to give tourists access to the baths below. There are ruins of a... More
