About
The first thing you notice about the Musée d'art moderne André Malraux-MuMa Le Havre is its breathtaking coastal setting. As you approach the spacious, light-filled museum building, Henri-Georges Adam's monumental concrete sculpture The Signal heightens the experience, framing a slice of the maritime landscape that inspired many of the works in the museum's collections. Le Havre has nurtured artists like Monet, Dubuffet, Friesz, Dufy and Braque. And MuMa is a pillar of the city's art history. Inaugurated in 1961 by André Malraux, then France's Minister of Cultural Affairs, MuMa is known for its late-19th and 20th-century collections. From the Impressionists to the Fauves, the museum's collections have been enriched by gifts such as works from the studio of Eugène Boudin and the Marande donation. More recently, Hélène Senn-Foulds donated an impressive collection built up by her grandfather, Olivier Senn, in the early 20th century. Thanks to the donation, MuMa's collection of Impressionist works is today one of France's largest, and the public can now enjoy works by Renoir, Pissarro, Sisley, Degas, Courbet and Corot.

It’s a great museum if you like Impressionism in particular. Many paintings by Le Havre artists of that era and a lot of Eugene Boudin. I liked his study of cows the best. Some other paintings but focus is on the impressionists and other styles close to that time period. I enjoyed it, but the limited selection means it won’t be a winner for everyone. It is a small space which made it easy to navigate and see everything in a short time.

it was an amazing and beautiful visit, as the building itself is already worth to come here. even more so the exhibition with some great permanent collection and a real highlight was the current part. you will have to register your visit in advance online, and there is only a very limited number of people allowed for each timeslot, so make sure to get your booking done.

This museum completes the visit quite well after a visit to the Musée d'Orsay: a highlight of the painter Eugène Boudin, some works by Renoir, Monet, Pissarro and especially painters from the region such as Dufy, Valloton.
Some paintings are very beautiful; it takes around 2 hours to admire the works. However, the store does not present enough elements about the museum.

Quite frankly, we were disappointed. A good collection of Eugene Boudin, but little else of interest. Also three small galleries were cordoned off whilst staff rearranged paintings during our visit, so we were unable to see any of these. Why cant the staff do any re-arrangement outside visitor hours? The museum doesn't open until 11am. And there was no cafe - only an expensive restaurant serving a 3 course lunch. Nowhere for just a cup of tea or coffee! Unthinkable in any museum or art gallery.

We went on a cold, wet day In February not expecting much as we have left many galleries of modern art somewhat baffled.
Not this one, the collection is largely of paintings from the impressionist era, many with local connections. We were impressed.
There was also an exhibition of more abstract works which was interesting.
Overall, an excellent collection, a spacious building and well worth a visit. It was €7 when we went.

The must-see museum of Le Havre: despite an exterior that may seem austere, the interior is bright and spacious. The temporary exhibition on the ground floor "Photographing in Normandy" ( until September ) is a treat. On the first floor, a permanent collection from the 16th to the 19th century with obviously remarkable impressionist paintings (especially the cathedral of Rouen by Monet in red and white colors). Free on the 1st Saturday of each month.

A very rich museum in the Impressionist collections. The temporary exhibition with the photos of Normandy allows to rediscover the beaches before the tourist development (see Etretat or Cabourg a century ago in photo c is to better situate the context of painters). Impressionist painters.. the museum is really very rich. Many Monet (including the cathedral) of Pissarro and so many others. The layout is airy, but the explanations are really very small. Conservatives will have to come to understand that by the age of 70 it becomes difficult to read the fine print ... at the bottom of the tables). The museum deserves the detour .. and if the weather is nice the sea view is beautiful

How can so much architectural ugliness contain beauties exposed inside. So yes we don't go there for the buildings but to see this sublime collection of impressionist paintings in particular. But the interior appearance is so horrible that we were surprised …

This museum was the reason for my first visit to Le Havre, and, over the years, for my subsequent visits.
The permanent collections are very rich and the temporary exhibitions are of very good quality.
The interior architecture makes the visit very pleasant.

I had wanted to discover MuMa for years, and I took advantage of the temporary exhibition "Photographing in Normandy" to go there.
Very nice scenography, curation of relevant content, but one point to review is (no pun intended) clearly the readability of the cartels which suffers from insufficient light on the one hand (in the more specific part of the daguerreotypes). Lighting works is one thing, making legends legible another, not to mention the body of the font used, far too weak. I have a pretty good view...
Otherwise a very nice visit, I recommend:-)
