We spent four hours hiking the trails through the Spirit Sands area (formerly called Carberry Desert) in the Spruce Woods provincial park. The flora (grasses, shrubs and trees) are gradually taking over the sand, but there are still lots of areas that show how the...More

If you can handle the hiking conditions (trails have several soft sandy sections, which can be especially challenging going uphill) a great place for a hike. The Spirit Sands Trail is about 2 kms to the top of the sand dunes, with additional trails (up...More

Awesome place for long or short hikes. Still quite wild and a cool anomaly in the middle of a farming province. Bring plenty of water and some snacks as it is hot and dry here. Make sure you know your limits and don’t exceed them...More

This is a educational and scenic hike, better if there's a park interpreter to elaborate on the sign boards. It weaves between the dunes (disappearing), prairie and woods. Lots of animals to be see though they're mostly small. Birds too. Not really difficult and rugged...More

If you like sand, and the Spirit Sands has lots of it, you need to come investigate this. There are numerous trails to visit. And this has to be like the fortieth time I've come here. It is wonderful!
