I was there twice, once to visit and look around and once for a Sunday mass. This is a beautiful old church and makes me feel like I am in a rea church because our local church at home is modern and round. This is...More

Seriously! Coming from Australia where everything is only 200 years old - this was amazing. Built by William the Conqueror in the years following the Battle of Hastings- about 1077- to appease the church - (as he married someone the church thought he shouldn')t- his...More

One is spoilt for buildings like this in France, but this one has that rare special feeling inside that many have lost due to excessive focus on tourism (Notre Dame de Paris, I'm looking at you!). The stark grandeur of its sister abbey is contrasted...More

Once again a big church and so full of historic meaning. the gardens were a bit of a disappointment compared to the men's abbey. Be ware if you are walking to it there is a good up hill pull.

The abbaye is a beautiful peaceful spot to discover in Caen. We went inside the church while a man was playing beautiful music on the organ. So beautiful, it was difficult to leave! It's a great spot out of the way, out of the whirlwind!

Not nearly as elaborate as the Abbey des Hommes across town, but it has Queen Matilda's grave, and presumably her remains. You have to be a fan of Matilda to end up here, or maybe early architecture.

This is a good change of pace after being though huge tourist centers. A peaceful place, and a nice walk to unwind a little bit.
