Have on mind that on the site you will not find the castle, but only the castle ruins and the remains of the defensive wall. If you climb up the walls you will see one side of the city, but La Maison des Quatrans and Église Saint-Pierre the best. Of course you can visit Musée de Normandie and Musée des... More

The castle has been carefully restored and is great to wonder around. The views from the ramparts are spectacular.

I have a great interest in Norman history and was very excited to visit the Norman chateau in Caen. I was very disappointed to discover that there is no castle interior / keep to visit as such, so you are just walking in the grounds / walking on the ramparts to get a view of the city, and viewing two... A historical site to understand how the ancient emperors maintain protection against potential invaders. The view of Caen from the castle is very nice as well.

Castle grounds are free to the public. It's open at 9. Parking is ok and close. There is a small walk through informational in the back in what used to be a church or hall of some sort that's open to the public. We left before the museums were really open but there's a local museum of culture there and... More

Right in the center of Caen, well signed in English and French. Several museums inside, extensive grounds, good for walking. Ramparts, walls, towers, more of a castle.

The Chateau is very imposing, sitting on a hilltop right in the middle of Caen. Walking along the ramparts provides lovely views towards the town with its many church steeples. There are also the ruins of William the Conqueror's original castle to be seen - the base of the keep are the most impressive. There are nice spots inside the... More

Chateau Ducal houses the Musée de Normandie and the Musée des Beaux Arts but we didn't visit either of these, we only walked the ramparts of the castle, which offered good views of Caen. The walls of the castle go on and on, we know because we walked all around trying to find the entrance, it didn't seem well signed,... More

We went on a Sunday so museums were not open. Fun walking around the ramparts and reading historical signs.
