Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Monthly on wednesdays at 6pm there is a short concert (1hour) held in the very grand foyer of the opera. You can book on line (9 euro each) and then just turn up for a little bit of culture before dinner. When we attended it was a selection of songs related to the current opera production sung by Andrea Hill a wonderful mezzo soprano.

Make sure you visit Lille when there's an opera on.
Quality singing and productions in a great theatre. There's a great sense of occasion but you don't need to dress up apart from being comfortable and tidy

Saw Purcell Indian Queen here. World class singing and orchestra at much less than world class prices in this stunning building.

The Opera is located in the very centre of the old town and is must to visit if there is a suitable performance or just to see the beautiful and recently renovated interior.

Every morning I would walk past the Opera house of Lille, therefore I have seen it in every kind of weather. Often in the fog or rain it looked like a stage set! To my mind the facade of the opera house is most beautiful one around.

Went to see opera for the first time in Lille where we went last weekend for a long weekend.
We had never been to the opera before, so no idea if this is what it is meant to be like. Was a modern opera called Requiem for L. One hour 40 minutes long without intermission of a background video on a giant screen of an old lady sadly dying, with some huge people on stage warbling away.
I’m a huge fan of stand up comedy, and bizarrely found the whole thing strangely hilarious. The singing was really good, and some of the dancing too, but don’t think will be hurrying back to the opera if it’s all like this.
That said, and I confess I am not a culture vulture, it must have been pretty good as it was a full house, and they wouldn’t stop clapping for ages afterwards. Was wondering if the crowd was mainly robots as they were all clapping in time with each other for about 5 minutes.
For me the real star of the show was the building itself though, just off the Grande Place. It’s worth a visit for the building alone.
Nice toilets too, shame they didn’t stop warbling for the whole 1 hour 40 minutes really.

It was our first time in Lille and we stayed here, and had a wonderful weekend. The room was lovely and very clean. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful, recommending local places to go and best restaurants to eat at. We returned a year later to find the hotel had a modern refurbishment which was great.

I’ll be on a road trip through this area. I’m looking at a Wednesday night show of the Lille Opera Choir and I’m wondering how dressed up I need to be. Is business casual ok for a Wednesday, or is formal wear expected?
Written 20 May 2019
I went in casual slacks, short-sleeve button-up shirt, and tennis shoes and it was fine. Excellent show.
