This is a large collection of art and instead of becoming overwhelmed, we downloaded their App which gave us fascinating audio descriptions of some of their 'favourites'. It meant that we got so much more out of the works that we viewed and stopped at many that we would otherwise have passed by. There is a lot of building work... More

The relief maps in the basement were for me the most impressive thing there. A must if you're interested in maps at all.

Looked like a lovely building behind the scaffolding, which was a shame. Collection is eclectic and spread out - could do with better signage. We didn't opt for the audio tour, but probably should have - especially for the artefacts below ground. Happy to see a couple of Monets on the way round. The empty atrium seemed a waste of... More

It is a huge museum and every piece is exciting. The iPod provided for listening went dead after some point but it was worth the experience.

I was watching a BBC TV programme and they reported about les Plans en Relief, which were used e.g. by the French king Louis XIV, to define military strategy for artillery campaigns in the north of France in XVII and XVIII centuries. the models (approx 1/600) were built to precisely show the geography of the bastioned fortifications and the courntyside... I took a day trip to Lille while visiting Paris, and was amazed by this fabulous collection of paintings, sculpture, and antiquities. It was like seeing the greatest hits of the Orsay, Louvre, and Rodin museums, without the crowds. If you are in Lille (which I highly recommend), don't pass up the chance to visit this museum -- admission is... More

Don't forget to use the 2 for 1 offer on your Eurostar tickets! Plenty of art work to see, lots of famous artists, though many are difficult to see as they're mounted so high. All in all, worth the money-especially with the discount. Allow an hour an a half to whizz round.

First of all I regret to say that the staff appear to be rather blasé and not at all interested in welcoming you as we were sent from from pillar to post 'pas cette caisse', 'la caisse â côté' without a bonjour or merci. Also the staff in the various rooms were engrossed in their books and sketchbooks, glued to... More
