I was a bit surprised to see a museum to Laperouse in an inland city in France, but when I discovered he was born in Albi, I made the effort to visit. There are very many mementos of his life and especially his trip to the South Pacific. There are also a couple of short films in English, but it... More

This is a small museum dedicated to the exploration of the Pacific by French navigators and particular the Comte de Laperouse. The information is well presented, but it was the enthusiasm and helpfulness of the staff that led to me giving a five star rating rather than four stars. Well worth a visit.

Slightly out of the way but worth a visit. English history concentrates on Cook and his travels but other nationalities were busy exploring. Here is a chance to find other explorers.

A very friendly and interesting Museum about the expeditions of Jean François de Galaup, comte de Lapérouse who arrived off Botany Bay in 1788.

If you have the time to spare, a walk across the bridge, (Stopping for great photos of the cathedral), will take you to this worthwhile and interesting Museum. Very helpful staff and multilingual video displays tell the story of this little known ( to the British, at least) explorer. We really enjoyed it and took advantage of the views from... More

This museum is really well thought out, I knew very little of Laperouse on entering but came out very well informed! I only visited it as my husband was keen, but was really surprised at how interesting it is! I would highly recommend visiting it. From the gardens there is also a fantastic view across the river of the cathedral,... More

Little did we know of this seafaring french son of Albi. This museum with a very friendly and helpful staff offers a beautiful story of the time and adventures of Commander Laperouse and the search for the truth behind the violent end of the life of the expedition and their ships.

When the staff at this museum found out that we were from Sydney and lived near Botany Bay they were quite excited and made us feel so welcome and special as we told them about the suburb of La Perouse named after this great French explorer. After leaving Botany Bay he was never seen or heard of again so his... More
