When planning a visit to war memorials in France most people think of the D-Day sites. A visit to the WWI memorials should not be overlooked. The Battle of Verdun was a horrific battle in WWI. The battle was fought for over 300 days. On average there were more than 500 casualties per day. Approximately 60 million artillery shells were... More

Walking the cemetery and seeing the crosses of all the different nationalities that gave their all for Europe and the world at the time is remarkable. Highly recommend a visit to this location.

As major historical events run deep in this part of the world, and as we are not history buffs, we were looking for a guide to introduce us to the area and help us "connect the dots" of the various sites strewn across the landscape with the history behind them. We could have done no better than finding Ingrid Ferrand,... More

After years of writing brilliantly funny frippery on this site, I am faced, entirely through choice, of writing a review of a place which witnessed some of the greatest savagery and human misery of 20th century. This is no easy task. One can become mawkish or sentimental when, in truth, the job of the reviewer is to emotionally detach and... More

If you are a war buff this is a great place to visit. Lots of old trenches and battlements still are visible and some can be entered. Can get a pretty good feel as to what it may have been like way back in the early 20th century. The area around the battlefield is charming, try to take the off... More

Take time to read about how the Germans and French almost bled each other white over the space of 10 months. Then go visit the museum and walk the battlefields. It is one of the most somber places I've ever visited.

Recently in Verdun without a car and with many of the historical sites closed for January, we contacted Ingrid to see if she would be interested in showing us around. When she said 'yes' it was the best thing that could have happened for us! Even though we couldn't go into the Ossuary, Fort Douamont or the Museum, our tour... More

For people interested in war history this place is amazing. I was only able to spend a day in the area but could have easily spent 3 or 4. 100yrs later the battle field still bares the scares of the 300 day battle. Many museums, monuments and bunkers to explore and surprisingly cheap to enter. Go to the info center... More

My great grandfather Sqt. Walter de Haven was killed in action on the first day of the Meuse Argonne Offensive in "The Great War" in 1918. The more our family learned little tidbits about Walter the more research we did. Then one day we found where he was buried , The Meuse Argonne American Cemetery near Verdun France. From that...
