Les Halles The real ones are the Baltard-style Narbonne Halls, the largest fresh produce store in the region. Take away the onlookers, curious, tourists and follow the locals to the best fishmongers, butchers, charcutiers, caterers, bakers, florists, wine merchants, grocers, and I forget!!! Follow the premises and you will notice that EVERYONE has HIS best craftsman. Quality and freshness are at hand and the choice is made out of sympathy, history and period of shared life. Your choice! Some semi-industrial establishments but of quality and reputation. Particular attention to "La hive des Halles de Narbonne", a group of beekeepers from Audois and Pyrenees (but not that). At the bottom of the Halles, right entering through the main entrance. You will find there, for the sweetness of fruity and woody rhododendron honey and fuller bodied chestnut honey spicy and with a hint of bitterness; but be careful, for the sweetness, "when y-en-a-pu, y-en-a-pu" , no molasses here. Lots of derivatives too. And what spoils nothing, Maya the Bee is very smiling. Good tasting.

We ate some oysters, very good snails and some prawns next to the fishmonger. We missed making the tuna tartare that had pintaza another time! We made a white wine to glasses I recommend the bottle since if you take it and proportionally it comes out better. Then we went to the bar in front of the butcher and ordered freshly chopped steak tartare as we saw that they asked directly to the butcher. The market is beautiful to come back!!!!❤️

Loved our visit to this Barney. A superb array of neat, fish, cheeses and produce. Also plenty of places inside to sit and sample the food. Lots of locals doing their shopping rather than crammed with tourists. We visited in a Sunday when it was busy (and the outdoor general market was on you). Park along the quay side (plenty of free parking along Victor Hugo)

The place to visit in each city: Les Halles. It is a good indicator for the discovery of tastes and colors. In Narbonne, I liked the atmosphere, there is everything. I went there on a Friday/Saturday and there were people. I tried a tielle and it was too good. I've been hungry on almost every stand even though there are non-regional stands.

If only we had food halls like this in the UK...this fabulous market hall isn't for barbour-clad middle classes..its food for everyone. Well priced meals are available (the steak in the photo was about £15) and wine at a couple of euros a glass to wash it down. Bars are packed with locals chewing the fat and if you fancy fish meat or veg at home the world is your oyster. An essential visit for a jealous Englishman!!
