The Tour Magne, i.e. the Great Tower, is the only tower left standing from the Roman city walls. The top of the tower of 140 steps provides a striking panoramic view of Nimes.

It is easy to imagine Nimes as a Roman city when you can see the remains of walls and the arena etc inside them. If you enjoy this kind of ‘perspective’ on history this is a spot that makes it come alive. The tower inside...More

35 meters high tower with a view worth the heart popping climbing required to go there : 140 steps, not for the faint of heart. The view is breathtaking but only can accommodate 4 people to take pictures. Families with small kids should avoid going...More

Totally worth getting the city pass which includes the Tour Magne. There is a large spiral staircase with awesome views of the city at the top. Well worth the climb and well worth a visit.

An interesting site, extremely important in the history of Nimes. It sits atop the highest point in the area, so it is not recommended for the infirm. You reach the summit by following a winding up-hill incline that is sometimes steep. Once at Tour Magne,...More

It was only €3.50 to go up and was told it was 140 steps to the viewing platform. The view out over the city is fantastic but the only down side is it’s not a 360 degree view.

Visited with the pass bought at the amphitheater. Very nice walk up from the town and a lovely walk back through the gardens.

The tower is a short and pleasant walk from the old town and the Maison Carrée. Up a few dozen spiral steps (be careful, the worn stone is slippery!) is a viewing platform that rewards the effort. The panorama over the town and beyond is...More
