Having visited many historic towns world wide this must be one of the most complete in every aspect. Walls towers etc all in incredible condition, a credit to the local authority and maintenance team

Standing alone in the midst of the marshy Camargue countryside, Tour Carbonniere captured my attention as we rode toward the medieval town of Aigues-Mortes. Back in the 1300's it was a formidable barrier and protection for the town. People were required to pay a toll...More

The Tour Carbonniere is on the route from Aigues Mortes to St. Laurent d'Agouze. It is unmanned but in pretty good order. The views out over the surrounding countryside are well worth the climb. It dates back to the 15th Century. There is space for...More

This old tower stand alone in the middle of nowhere. It can be clearly seen and easily approached. We did so by bike from Aigues-Mortes along the newly constructed canal side cycle track. When we last visited, the tower was inaccessible. Now, it has been...More

As a former toll station there was literally no way to get around it. Now you can take the boardwalk to the tower, go up to enjoy the view and learn about the swamp area.
