Everyone must visit Versailles. I got tickets ahead at FNAC (the ticket agent there was not at all helpful) to avoid the lineups at Versailles. There was still a long lineup but it moved quickly and I was inside in 10 minutes. Again, early is...More

This chateau is more than words can tell in terms of every detail. Each room is more and more breath-taking and it becomes harder and harder to leave such a beautiful place. Everything from the floor to the painted ceilings is worth seeing. You could...More

We did a walking tour through with Walking tours of France. We would highly recommend this as it was a beautiful day and the tour buses and trains from Paris just keep rolling in. Very short lines for us and excellent historic perspective on history....More

Plan to get up early and get out there before or as it opens. We indulged ourselves and took an Uber there at 7.40am. (€36) We'd heard there's no food available or allowed inside. Your bags get scanned. Our filled baguettes that I was carrying...More

I wish we'd had more time for the gardens--somehow our tour only included the chateau. It was way too crowded and so beat up by tourists that it was not enjoyable.

Don't miss the gardens. Allow at lest 6 hours. I'd recommend spending the entire day. The garden cafes are great and not too overly priced. Download an app before you go for the best experience, it's worth a couple dollars. The line takes hours so...More

We reached midday and there was a huge crowd waiting to get into the palace but we were smart and decided to do this later. We went straight into the gardens and saw quite a few of the fountains and sat for some time at...More

To stand in front of the castle is just breath in taking. Walking through the rooms where people lived thousands of years ago. The only thing which is kind of sad is that in nearly every room it states that it is not as it...More

Buy your ticket in advance for everything. Get to Versailles early because the line is ridiculous as the day goes. There is not a separate line for ticket holders versus those needing tickets. When we went, we stood in line... More

Has anyone heard anything about the evacuation that took place here a day or two ago? Some friends of mine posted photos of military/law enforcement abruptly hurrying people out without any explanation.

They play music with the fountain (synchronized). If there's such a show, the entrance is not free (8 euros) i.e, it is not included in the Chateau entrance fee.
