Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had a German train ticket from Paris to Germany for the TGV at 5:54 p.m. on December 4, 2023. I got a message on my cell phone from Deutsche Bahn that the connection was canceled. The French employees forced me to take this train to Strasbourg and from there take a regional connection to Germany in a completely overcrowded regional train. Most of the passengers had no seats. An ICE to Frankfurt left at 5:10 p.m., but the railway employees did not let me on the train. They claimed it was fully booked. But you could book seats online. I was lied to. Never again - I arrived two hours later. A German railway employee refused to give me his name, only responded to my loud voice, never again.

Beautiful building.

But my gosh, can someone who has some power walk around outside the station to gain the full 'experience' that visitors have arriving to Paris? Much like it's sister station Gare de Nord, there is an overwhelming and overpowering stench of stale urine. (Sadly this seemed to also be all the way up and around Monmarte, and by the Sacre Ceour.. urinals in full view seem to be a 'thing'. As is just standing in the street in-between parked cars (but that's a different story)

To the point where the 'odour' made us choke. Talk about taking someone's breathe away- for all the wrong reasons. We have never known anything like it. If I was Parisian I would be so sad!

To make matters worse there are urinals just around corners that don't hide much of anything, and having a little look at the view whilst waiting for our Eurostar back to the UK if you look down you can see everything on the one circular urinal under a beautiful historical arch!

What has happened Paris?!?!!?!!?

We came to this station from Munich on a direct train. The station was fairly small as we were already outside once we walked down the platform. The inside looked like a station but was a bit smaller. The outside was quite nice as it looked almost like a greenhouse with the windows on the front. There is also a statue on top of the station. It was a nice station with bus stops close by for transfers, although we didn't use them as there was a strike at the time.

On August 14th, during peak travel season, there was exactly 1 information desk open and 2 ticket counters... Wow. There was also a rail replacement service, so some information would have been good. I will never go to this station again in my life!

Back from a week in the USA where the services were at the top. After almost 24 hours of shuttles train to plane , arrived at the station of the east , and the c is the tragedy train announced 45 minutes late and a scandal at the level of the disgusting toilets . Yet we pay 1 euro to go. A shame and thank you for the image of France for tourists

Excellent handling of our problem in this station!! Following our arrival late by 1h30 Gare de Lyon, impossible to be on time for our connection Gare de l Est. No problem, we were taken care of first. Back to first class on our next train. Many thanks to the staff of this station who are very welcoming and competent!!

My husband and I went through the station on a day trip to Reims while we were in Paris. I was nervous about navigating an unknown station, catching our very early train, etc. but it was a breeze. Very simple lay out, beautiful station, and has just what my American tastebuds needed that morning - a Starbucks :-)

We vusited station to catch connecting SNCF train to Strasbourg. Facility wise it's ok. Restraurants are present . Shops selling clothes , magazines etc are present. Station is neat and clean . But it is highly unsafe station. Thieves operate in groups and scam you of your belongings. Pickpocketing is rampant. Police presence is negligible. No security for tourists.

Speaking and understanding just very rudimentary French I could navigate and figure out the station without diffculty. A pretty, single-floored building, it has all the tracks run from one side of the building to the other and in logical numeric order and then divided into three main categories. You watch the monitors to see which track your train will leave from and what time its boarding (like Penn Station in NYC). There is an ATM, grocery store, many decent cafes and shops. What I really appreciated is that there was seating nearby viewing the monitors which allowed people to sit and rest while waiting. I took the TGV to Strasbourg and had bought my e-ticket ahead of the trip. When my train and its track were listed as "boarding" I went through the electronic stalls and scanned my ticket before forwarding to the track. After boarding the train there was no need to scan my ticket an additional time, I was all set. It was very efficeint and well organized overall. My experience at the Strasbourg station was different as it was not as well laid out and effecient.
By the way I traveled alone (am a woman) and felt safe in the train station.

I stayed in Paris 4 nights close to this station. Excellent organized and well laid out. You can go anywhere in Paris and across the country from here.
If you travel a lot you can buy a pass fro 3 days with 53Euro. If you only commute locally dont bother buying a pass. A one way ticket anywhere in the city bit not to the airport is 1.8 Euro. Tickets machines everywhere and very easy to use.
My tip: Stay around a train station and save big on a hotel room, avoid central hotels, they are expensive. Transportation to Paris centre and back will only cost you less than 4 Euro.
