A great place to find a cafe to spend a little time watching the crowds walk by. This Place is in the middle of the university area so expect a lot of young people and folks who work in education. The Pantheon is here.

Place de la Sorbonne is the most romantic and truly parisian place in all of Paris! Beautiful parisian buildings, cute cafes, the stunning Sorbonne. Sit at one of the cafes and enjoy a petit dejeune, while watching young parisians hurry to school in the morning, or old fashionable, parisian ladies walking their dogs. It doesnt get more authentic and chic than that!

This square was about two blocks from our hotel, and we ate at two of the four or five restaurants. There is also a Pret A Manger on the corner, which is a great place to pick up a quick breakfast or lunch. The fountain is lovely.

The Place de la Sorbonne is a lovely square located in front of the Sorbonne University, just off the Boulevard Saint-Michel. The beautiful front facade and the impressive dome of the Sorbonne’s central building dominate this charming square. The lovely water fountains add a certain appeal to this picturesque place. It’s so nice to sit and relax by the fountains or in one of the several cosy sidewalk cafés. A great place to take a break from exploring the vibrant Latin Quarter.

I find this square to be pleasant in summer when its fountains operate but rather uninteresting otherwise. It is a courtyard for the Sorbonne so often has many students milling about. Shops, cafes and a hotel stand by the square with chairs for the eateries spilling outside in warm weather.

Benches provide places to sit and rest awhile, but I prefer to do that in the nearby Luxembourg Gardens, which provide a spectacular setting. For those who want a closer look at the Sorbonne itself, the main entrance is north of this square on Rue des Ecoles.

It takes about 2 minutes to walk around the square, so some visitors may want to do that when exploring the Latin Quarter. A glance from the sidewalk on Boulevard Saint Michele, however, may be enough.

I consider the fountains in this big pedestrian square, which opens to Boulevard Saint-Michel, to be its most appealing elements. But they are turned off in cold weather and were not running during my March visit. The tall shade trees displayed bare branches .And only a few people scurried across the square or ate breakfast at one of the cafes along the south side. In warmer weather, many students hang out here because of the square's proximity to university buildings.

The north side features various shops, from clothing to books. A nice statue of Auguste Comte (1798-1857) also appears in that area. I think this is a fitting place for the tribute to the founder of sociology, positivism philosophy and humanism religion. At the far end of the square, facing the boulevard, is the Chapel of Sainte Ursule de la Sorbonne. This large structure dates back to the 17th century.

But it was the fast-food restaurant Pret A Manger that kept me coming back. I found it a good place to buy healthful snacks to go and an OK cup of coffee.

A nice square made famous by the presence of the university, one of the most famous in the world. A fast look is more than enough!
