Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a very short covered passage in one of the oldest parts of town. The design is exquisite, and even though there aren't many interesting shops or cafes here, the architecture make it worth a visit. I love to come here for a few minutes.

The best part of this experience is the splendid early 19th Century architecture. That's when this mini shopping mall was built to get people off the dirty streets and to take advantage of the land in the middle of the block. Not much to see inside, a few boutiques, but the design is splendid.

Usually on a tour dedicated to Parisian 'passages couverts', a visit to the Galerie Véro-Dodat is the first stop, the reason being is that the network of the 'passages couverts' (the most famous ones and open to public such as Passage Choiseul, Passage des Panoramas, Galerie Vivienne, and Passage Jouffroy) extends, roughly, from south to the north-east, with the Galerie Véro-Dodat being the southernmost point.
As most of the Parisian passages, the Galerie Véro-Dodat is open from Monday to Saturday, however, its opening hours are a bit longer, it stays accessible until 10 PM, while the others are open till 7 PM or 8 PM, mostly.
If entering from rue Jean-Jacques-Rousseau, and if you or your partner happens to be a shoe aficionado, there is a Christian Louboutin boutique right next door. The prices are however the same as on your domestic website, if not more expensive.
Parisian covered passages took roots briefly after the Napoleonic fall, during the Restoration of the Bourbon monarchy. Lots and lots of the city real estate that used to be a property of religious orders and the Catholic church in general were nationalized and auctioned during the preceding Revolution of 1789. The developers of the time, seeking to increase their profits, decided to subdivide the properties and cut them open, placing various businesses and tenants inside those newly pierced passageways. The tendency of cramping more into less is easily observed if you look up, inside any covered passage, above the store windows - there exist the windows of the living quarters that seem like a half of a regular floor, and not the whole thing.
The architecture and decor are stunning, please pay attention to the small details and the ceiling frescoes and the antique store window designs. Even though the Galerie Véro-Dodat was completely renovated in 1997, one can feel a complete immersion in the bygone ear of the old Paris of XIXth century.
To have your lunch or dinner there, you can choose between the Restaurant Véro-Dodat, offering very affordable meals (all main courses don't go above the 15 euro mark) in the French traditional style (open Monday through Saturday from 12 to 4:30 PM for lunch and from 6:30 to 9:30 PM for dinner) and more upscale Café de l’Epoque, located a the rue du Bouloi entrance (most entrees range from 16 to 38 euro), again in the French traditional style, the so-called restaurant français traditionnel.
Inside one can find many boutiques, from highly unusual and specialized one, such as the one by Denis Grenier, an expert in 17th-19th centuries architectural designs and drawings or the repair shop by F. Charle who made his specialty guitars and other stringed instruments to the modern design and art boutiques.
We visited the Gallerie Véro-Dodat shortly after 10 AM on Saturday, thus it was almost deserted, as you can see on our photographs.
Highly recommended as a dedicated visit or in conjuncture with a tour to other "passages couverts".

Built in 1826 in neoclassical style, Galerie Véro-Dodat is listed as a French historical landmark. The diagonal grid of black and white tiles is just one of its charms.

It is located between rue Croix-des-Petits-Champs and rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau. It is considered one of the most homogeneous and aristocratic of the passages, with painted ceiling and paneled shop fronts divided by black marble columns. Today, it is noted for high-end shopping, especially shoes, and impressive ceilings.

A very nice gallery with shops, a restaurant and a cafe.
Hint: it leads to the Christian Louboutin women and men's shop (wink, wink). Big queue for the women, none on the men's part. New: he just opened in the galery a new store dedicated to beauty with the interior architect Pierre Yovanovitch.

Only one block long, this stunning shopping mall links two major streets. But you will be away from the traffic and noise. The 19th Century architecture is stunning and in very good restored condition. Some good high-end shopping.

The original covered passage in Paris, built when the main coach station was here, coach as in horse and carriage, well before anyone invented the chemin de fer.
Also earliest space lit by gas lights. Has it a history? Ou I!
Today, filled with shops and a restaurant.
Take a look.
